Castle of Dark Illusions - 2nd Effect

The 2nd Effect of Castle of Dark Illusions is "As long as this card remains face-up on the field, the ATK and DEF of Zombie-Type monsters continues to increase by 200 points during each of your Standby Phases. This effect continues until your 4th turn after the card is activated."

I have always ruled that this affects all Zombies on the field, even those summoned after Castle was flipped. However, the word "continues" may lead some to believe only those monsters on the field before the flip will, ahem, continue to increase. I could see it going either way and I can't find anything official. I still believe it affects all Zombies, period, but now there is a wedge of doubt there. Any thoughts?

I'm also inclined to believe that monsters summoned after Castle of Dark Illusions is already on the field will get the boost. However, they do not get the immediate boost when they are summoned. In other words, say CoDI has been on the field for 2 turns. A monster summoned that turn will not gain 400 points off the bat, but will instead gain 200 for the next 2 turns. They will not get the boost until your next Standby Phase.

I agree. From the way the text is worded, it sounds more like a temporary field card kind of effect. Whenever a Zombie monster is face up on the field, it becomes subject to the increase boost.

On that same note, if a Zombie is flipped face down via a Book of Moon effect, and flipped up later, it will lose its previous gains and start back over again.

Right, the Flip Effect ends at the first sentance. "As long as this card remains face-up on the field..." is a dead give away for a Continuous Effect.

This is similar to Night Assailants two effects. For a short time after the card came out, people couldn't understand how the Flip Effect could allow it to discarded to the hand.

Night Assailants case was fairly obvious though, once you use a little common sense. Castle of Dark Illusion is less obvious, but that statement I quoted above is the distingushing mark from its Flip Effect. You actualy wouldn't need to flip it to get the secondary effect where it not counting Standby Phases.

No. I said if it weren't for the fact that it counts Standby Phases after being activated (flipped) then you wouldn't need to flip it. But you do, so you can't. ;)

i think it's a silly question but in my own turn there are 2 standby phase the sbf1 and the sbf2 so generally people think that castle of dark ill. will increase by 200 points the atk of zombies but why the 2nd sbf doesen't count?

Too bad that doesn't work. A 2nd stanby phase would definitely help some level monsters. Different Dimension Capsule would become godly beyond belief. Solemn Wishes would be played more, etc etc

... You wouldn't have to care about Armed Dragon LV3, Silent Magician LV4, Silent Swordsman LV3&5 and the Ultimate Insects then anymore, Dancing Fairy would give you more often LP, you would have to pay more often for the Archfiends, Imperial Order etc..., Exodia Necross would increase more often..., Snatch Steal would pay more often, Wave-Motion Cannon can be blowed up more often, etc... etc....
