Are many of you interested in dueling online with special rules?

I won't be participating much, but I started something at Edo's (yes, we're still alive) and, if there are many online duelists here, I thought you could try it too. It might be difficult since, as far as I know, there's no real-time chat room for this board. However, you can play on AIM or something.

This isn't in the Duel forum because this is concept and planning rather than execution for CoG right now.

Another idea I have for the future is to require a certain amount of your cards to be from a specific limited pool. I won't say WHICH pool right now, because that might ruin the surprise.

The rest of this post is what I posted at Edo's:

Make a deck using these cards and duel with them in the chatroom. Ask for a "Challenge duel". The Challenge of the Week may last more than a week, depending on my immortal whim.

Follow the current ban list, because I'm too lazy to make my own. However, required cards are not restricted, even if I require only one.

Post logs in this topic.

This week's limit will be 50 cards. You must have at least 50 cards in your deck.

This week's special rule is: Battle damage to Life Points is set to 0. Effects that are usually triggered by battle damage are still triggered if the damage would have been applied.

The cards this week (note the multiples):
Trap of Board Eraser
Counter Trap
You can only activate this card when an effect that inflicts damage to your Life Points is activated (except Battle Damage). Negate the Effect Damage you receive and your opponent then selects 1 card from his/her hand and discards it.

Barrel Behind the Door
Counter Trap
You can only activate this card when an effect that inflicts damage to your Life Points is activated (except Battle Damage). Switch the Effect Damage you receive to your opponent's Life Points.

Ceasefire
Normal Trap
Flip all face-down Defense Position monsters on the field face-up. Flip Effects are not activated at this time. Inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each Effect Monster on the field.

Just Desserts
2xJust Desserts
Normal Trap
Inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points for each monster on your opponent's side of the field.

Blasting the Ruins
2xBlasting the Ruins
Normal Trap
You can only activate this card if there are 30 or more cards in your Graveyard. Inflict 3000 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points.

Meteor of Destruction
Normal Spell
Inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. You cannot activate this card if your opponent's Life Points are 3000 or less.

Dark Room of Nightmare
2xDark Room of Nightmare
3xDark Room of Nightmare
Continuous Spell
Each time damage, except Battle Damage, is inflicted to your opponent's Life Points, inflict 300 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points. This card's effect is not applied to the effect of "Dark Room of Nightmare".

Save this as a TXT file, put it in the Decks folder, and you can use it in YVD:
1|Tp5|Trap of Board Eraser
1|Pgd|Barrel Behind The Door
1|Sd1|CeaseFire
2|Sdk|Just Desserts
2|Ioc|Blasting the Ruins
1|Fet|Meteor of Destruction
3|Pgd|Dark Room of Nightmare

Yes, your opponent will be using a Challenge deck too.

This is a great idea!

I wish they would have things like this at the actual events like the Sneak Previews and whatnot. Reminds me a little of the video game 'challenges'.

Well done. I'll see if I can round up a couple folks and give it a shot :D

Between me and SHAKK2Racing from Edo's, we had two duels. In the end, it came down to my dirty, dirty luck, and in spite of my complete ignorance about what my cards actually did.

The duel logs are posted here:
http://edos.siteburg.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=17067#17067

It might not be exciting when we're both stuck taking turns drawing cards, but me activating Barrel against his Ebon Magician Curran when I didn't have any monsters on my field for Curran to damage with may be classic.

Also, I should mention this: Don't be a jerk about the nuances of the rules. These duels aren't meant to count for anything (and, in fact, don't). Just pokes your imagination so you'll have a little fun. If there's someone you really hate, my advice would be not to duel them.
