Chaos Sorcerer Ruling needed!

The scenario played last night in a game was.

Player 1 - Special summoned Chaos Sorcerer in there first main phase.
Then declared battle on Player 2, who had no monsters on the field.

Player 2 - Flipped 'Call of the Haunted' and summoned Blue Eyes White Dragon to field.

Player 1 - Then said instead of attacking, would use Chaos Sorcerers effect to destroy monster.

Can player 1 do this, when hes in Battle phase?
or because he had already committed himself to attack, for goes the option to use Chaos's effect?.

From the time that the player 'declared an attack' with Chaos Sorcerer, its' effect can no longer be used for that turn, unless flipped face-down or removed from the field and came back before the end of the turn somehow...

Also, its' effect cannot be used during the Battle Phase, only in Main Phases 1 and 2...

But in any case, the simple, short answer is: No, Chaos Sorcerer's effect cannot be used in your example.

If he already declared the attack with Chaos Sorcerer, and a Replay occurs, just because the player chose not to complete his attack DOESN'T allow him the opportunity to then remove a face-up monster from play. He cannot remove Blue-Eyes White Dragon, especially doing it in the Battle Phase.

He declared and attack. Even if the attack was canceled, it's still have considered to have attacked, so no. You cannot use Chaos Sorcerer's effect. (Kinda like how after you declared an attack and a replay happened, even if you decide not to attack, you cannot switch battle positions even if that monster was summoned last turn.)

just for clarity no he cannot use the effect during the battle phase to destroy BEW because its still the battle phase...If "Chaos Sorcerer" attacks and a replay occurs, and you decide not to attack again with "Chaos Sorcerer", you cannot activate "Chaos Sorcerer"'s effect in Main Phase 2.
