Most of the people I play Duel Masters with use decks that are specially made with specific strategies or themes in mind, and those decks are rather good at getting to cards that are essential to those strategies.
However, I have this one friend who's deck is anything but "specially made". It contains no real structure and seems to be more like a deck with random Nature and Light cards stuck together. Yet, of all of the people I play, his deck continues to be hardest one to beat. The reason? His deck, though loosely constructed is extremely consistant. The deck contains Light Blockers ranging from La Ura Giga to Szubs Kin to stall out the opponent while running more Double Breakers (and one Triple Breaker) than you can shake a stick at. Double Breakers include Cryptic Totem, Xeno Mantis, Hanusa, Radiance Elemental, Syforce, Aurora Elemental, Dawn Giant, and Headlong Giant as the one Triple Breaker. Along with 4 copies apiece of both Holy Awe and Dimension Gate, his deck is able to keep up with any and every deck the rest of our friends can throw at it.
It just goes to show you that Duel Masters doesn't have to be comprised of all mono-civ decks or decks with seemingly fancy builds. Even the player on the budget that has to scrounge together cards here and there and play a be a force to reckoned with.
