Cybernetic Magician
Effect Monster (Spellcaster / LIGHT / 6 Stars / ATK 2400 / DEF 1000)
Discard 1 card from your hand. The ATK of 1 face-up monster on the field becomes 2000 until the End Phase of this turn.
"¢ The effect of "Cybernetic Magician" is an Ignition Effect that targets a monster.
"¢ Since "Cybernetic Magician" makes the ATK "become" 2000, that is the new value. Even if the monster was equipped with an Equip Spell Card, the ATK is 2000 and is not adjusted, even if the Equip Spell Card is destroyed. (However, if equipped after the effect of "Cybernetic Magician" resolves, the ATK will be adjusted from the new level of 2000 points.)
"¢ If a monster is getting an ATK adjustment because of a Field Spell Card, and you use the effect of "Cybernetic Magician" on it, then its ATK becomes 2000 and is not adjusted by the Field Spell Card until the effect of "Cybernetic Magician" expires. (However, if a new Field Spell Card is activated that changes the ATK, it will adjust it from the new 2000 ATK level.)
"¢ You cannot target a monster with "Cybernetic Magician" if its ATK is already 2000 (like "Vampire Lord"). This includes monsters that have 2000 ATK because of the effect of "Cybernetic Magician".
"¢ If you target a "Raging Flame Sprite" that currently has 3100 ATK with the effect of "Cybernetic Magician", at the end of the turn its ATK will return to 3100 points, not 100.
Overall, I like this card. It has a well-qualified 2400 ATK, so it could see play as Airknight Parshath's replacement in some Chaos decks. It's also bound to see abuse via Scapegoat and Night Assailant. It's Light, which gives it support, and it's a Sepllcaster, so it's supported.
This card has insane combo possibilities. Night Assailant looping can pump every monster on your field to 2000 every turn. Cybernetic Magician + Night Assailant setup + Scapegoat = OTK. 'Nuff said.
This card has a lot going for it. 2400 ATK let's stand up to everything short of BLS-EotB. It has the traditional Monarch DEF of 1000, even though it's not a Monarch. Anyway, nice card.
The main disadvantage of this card is the obvious fact that's it's a Tribute monster, which means you have to give up increasing field presence for a turn to get him out. Not that it isn't worth it.
When playing this card, power up/drain ATK points sparingly. Do so only when needed, unless you set up Night Assailant looping. Also, be wary of Tsukuyomi. This card eats Cybernetic Magician alive.
Advanced: 4/5 Scapegoat abuse makes this card even better.
Traditional: 3/5 Not feeling it here.
Limited: 4.5/5 Take it if you see it.
Sealed Pack: 4.75/5 Trust me, this thing is brutal in Sealed.
