Dark Magician of Chaos IOC-065

Dark Magician of Chaos
Effect Monster (Spellcaster / DARK / 8 Stars / ATK 2800 / DEF 2600)

When this card is Normal Summoned or Special Summoned successfully, you can add 1 Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand. A monster that is destroyed by this monster as a result of battle is removed from play instead of going to the Graveyard. When this card is destroyed or removed from the field, it is removed from play.

Ok... I know most everyone was waiting for this one. Whip out "Dedication through Light and Darkness", offer your "Dark Magician" as a tribute and bring out this heavy hitter. Assuming the timing is correct, DMoC also has the added benefit of getting any spell card from your graveyard and returning it to your hand. Monsters it battles and destroys are removed from play. The only downside is that when he leaves the fiend for any reason, he is removed from play as well.

Honestly, I like him, but ever since "Dark Magician of Chaos" was restricted to 1, his playability has decreased a great deal. He still is a strong monster with a great effect, but with so many ways to remove him from the field, it is more of a 1 shot deal (with 2 expensive ways to bring him back). All and all, it's the best you can do with your "Dark Magician" (outside of perhaps "Dark Paladin") and with the right deck built around it, something that can really disrupt your opponent's play.

Imo

I like DMOC, he has a great effect, great attack, and would probably replace DM if the text on all the cards that specify DM would say DM or DMOC, that would make this card one of the best in the game bc he has such huge support. but other than that, he is the man. Him and guardian angel joan are some top deckers i like.

Mostly everything is said. Good stats, good effects. I will simply add that Dark Magician of Chaos has a good art too.

Such an amazing monster...It would HAVE to have SOME kind of downside...Which is why my bounce deck laughs at him, but STILL! No searchers, no reborning what he destroys...And he has 2800 attack to boot! AND a Magician of Faith effect when he's summoned; doesnt have to be flipped! AND he finds support in a Dark Magician Deck! And finally kickass artwork?? 4/5 great card!

My question is do you still get flip effects even tho the monster is removed from play? I say yes, but someone I know is in disagreement on that.

But at least you're guarenteed to get something back for summoning him; Swords of Revealing Light, Snatch Steal etc...

Four words: Skill Drain pwnz this.
He's still a nasty 2800 ATKer though...and not terribly hard to get out, what with Painful Choice and all. 4/5

Return from a different dimension

I think you all have a problem with DmoC effect of being removed from play by so many ways. Why dont you use this downside as an upside. The trick is following. What is easier than special summoning? nothing! So if he is removed from play you can use the trap card return from a different dimension to bring him back into the game for one turn. But that is enough, because you can use his effect to get a spell card from your graveyard. I think there are enough possibilities to win or make a lot of damage this way. Return can be a very mighty card, not only because of DmoC. You have to play only a little bit on removing monsters to get this card very strong. Think this: Get Jinzo, Ha Des, DmoC back on the field. Do you think your oppenent has a chance to survive it? Scape Goat? Oh, then you use Invader of Darkness too. Its so cool to win this way.

DMoC is my favorite card EVER. Hes magician of Faith and Lesser Fiend in one.
he gets removed from the field? Big deal Dimension Fusion and Return from a Diffrent Dimension take care of that. Put him in a Strike Ninja deck and you have the ulimate in ownage. Plus hes a DM so that's always a plus. Unfortunately he costs 2 tributes, which makes him slow to get out and dead weight in the hand more than once in a while. And when he gets bounced back by CEDevice, it's a major loss of field advantage. Still you gotta love him He gets

4.2/5 in traditonal(since two tribs are harder to get out here)
4.6/5 in advanced

You can't really give him below a 4. Hes just to darn cool.

Because I'm not going to give up half my life points just to see him get wiped out by Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute, CED etc or even Sak. Armour. The risk outways the gain.

however, with book of moon popular again, you can flip him face-down, and when he is destroyed, he isn't removed from play, except for NoC

No matter what way you slice it, DMoC is the ONLY 2 Trib monster to be considered Heavily Playable in nearly any Attacking deck.

Envoys don't count: They need a specific deck, and they are 0 Trib anyway.

Fusilier, Nephthys, Joan, and other 2 Tribs all like/require their own decks. This guy does wonders in a Dark Magician deck, but also works just about anywhere else in which you need power.

This monster is easily the best 2 Trib in the game, with a few others coming close to it's usage, but only in their specific deck.

Heck, even the up-and-coming Antique Gear Golem doesn't rival this without it's own specific deck.

DMoC is one of the perfect cards for Limited-to-1 Status. Any more copies allowed, and it's broken. It's nowhere in need of a ban.

It's the ultimate 2 Trib, and get this: It's even shown in the Anime, for any Cartoon Fans. It's used by a Deck Thief in Duel Monsters GX Episodes 18 and 19, when said thief steals Yugi's deck.

What does that achieve? I've still lost half my life points and the DMoC is still not on my side of the field.

If he gets bounced back to your hand, he will be removed from play so you can just Dimension Fusion him back or RFtDD him back.

Xeno, say they raigeki break him (no need for dimension fusion, you regularly summoned him) chain book of moon so he goes to the graveyard to be reborn again, i didn't mean after dimension fusion, etc.

also, ..... wouldn't Jinzo prevent all those traps listed from activating at all?

no offense intended :)
