Dark Necrofear Ruling Update

They FINALLY got around to making the ruling match what the Japan ruling is.

From the UDE FAQ (courtousy of the e-mail just sent to us from the UDE guys)

If it is destroyed by your opponent's "Harpie's Feather Duster", "Dust Tornado", etc. while it is an Equip Spell Card, "Dark Necrofear" will NOT return during the End Phase since it was NOT destroyed while a Monster Card.

Now let's see what De-Fusion says...

The card has been errata'd to reflect that ruling:

 • This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 3 Fiend-Type monsters in your Graveyard. If this card is destroyed as a result of battle or by your opponent's card effect while it is a Monster Card, it is treated as an Equip Card during the End Phase of this turn, and equip 1 of your opponent's monsters with this card. As long as it is equipped with this card, you control the equipped monster.

Equip Cards

An "Equip Card" is any card that is equipped to a face-up monster on the field. Spell Cards with the Equip Icon are the most common type of Equip Card, and are officially called Equip Spell Cards. They are treated as both Spell Cards (They would be destroyed by the effect of "Heavy Storm") and Equip Cards (for purposes such as "Gearfried the Swordmaster".) Other cards may become Equip Cards though card effects, like with "Sword Hunter" or Union Monsters. Whenever a Monster Card becomes an Equip Card, it is treated as an Equip Spell Card, and is no longer a Monster Card. So a "Dark Magician" equipped to your "Sword Hunter" as an Equip Card could be destroyed by "Heavy Storm" but not "Tribute to The Doomed".

Some Trap Cards, like "Blast with Chain", can also become Equip Cards. These cards are considered Equip Cards but are NOT Equip Spell Cards. This means that it is a Trap Card (and could be destroyed by "Remove Trap") and an Equip Card (for purposes such as "Gearfried the Swordmaster".) It is not a Spell Card, and could not be destroyed by "De-Spell".

Finally, America recognizes that equipment traps stay as traps. And aren't Magic cards.

Another point for the so-called "fan rulings" of the JERP.

I still would take the rulings that UDE puts out on their website more so than I would ever the ones that are from JERP when the two conflict. I still remember the Issue that Hallowed Life Barrier created.
Yes, one of the very few rulings that the JERP was highly doubted on. Many who follow the JERP as the law doubted this one.

btw Rai, is the site still up? i tried to google it with "jerp yugioh" and it didn't show up...it always did in the past... strange...:(

That's the second time I've heard of this 'Hallowed Life Barrier' incident, but I've no idea what's it about :p ... Care to share it :D

Novastar: Google "Puppiy" and "HP" (home page). Apparently, since Edo's site went boom, there are no links to that site as "JERP".

Hallowed Life Barrier:
手札を1枚捨てる。
このカードを発動したターン、相手から受ける全てのダメージを0にする。

"Discard one card from your hand.
This card's activation turn, damage originating from your opponent is 0."

The UDE card, however, says basically:
"Discard one card from your hand. During this turn, damage from your opponent to you is 0."

Thanks Rai, i appreciate it.

As far as the Hallowed Life Barrier is concerned. I have no idea who is correct.

When i mentioned it on Realms when the card was released, Kevin blasted me for saying it, and was adamant about the fact that Konami had repeatedly assured him that the JERP specifically was incorrect and that UDE had the correct ruling.

He was hinting at the fact that the Japanese text was incorrect, and the North American text was updated, and thus had the correct interpretation.

Konami insisted that Hallowed Life Barrier was not a "Super Waboku"

Yet the JERP gets its rulings directly from Konami as well.

Both sides as far as i know, haven't changed their respective rulings.

It's okay....remember all the weapons in your arsenal. Don't go and do something foolish now.

Preach it Dark Ruler! I can't believe they would insult the Dark Lady like that, but I guess if the the original text was bad, then why didn't they errata it earlier?

Oh well. I mean we gotta sac three fiends out of our graveyard. At that point your for the most part dedicated to a fiend deck unless you're just running germs. On top of that, after she equips, she doesn't come back when the monster is destroyed from battle because she's destroyed by a game mechanic.

Who knows. I'm still loyal though. Maybe Dark Necrofear is like the BLS-EoTB of Japan and they had to do something to limit her rampages across the Yugi scene 8^D

Well that issue had been resolved a long time ago, I thought due to the ruling Necrofear can't be revived a second time in the same turn it was special summoned?

I don't know what all the hub-bub is about. Dark Necrofear's ruling hasn't changed; it's been this way since she's come out. The new text just simply clarifies the matter.

I've always run Dark Necrofear in a strictly fiend deck and I see no reason to change it now just cause the new text is clearer. Her play has always been this way.

not true . before you can mst it or heavy or dust it and itll return.

you can then use tornado on it and again itll return.

like rai stated they dumbed down her effect because in situation with gearfreed she would return in an infinite loop that woldnt be stoped unles something stepped in.

then we got the can only be brought out 1 time. so you had situation were she would get msted during the end phase. thats kool.

but now. you can mst her during the turn she equips and thats it. or after during your draw phase and thats it no more necrophia to freak out your monsters.

she really got her power kileld by alot by going with the jpn ruling. but hey it had to happen sooner or later.

now whats with the Old Vindictive Magician text, when will it change?
