Dark Panther and Hidden Soldiers?

If I summoned Dark Panther via Hidden Soldiers after a Monarch hits the field (say Zaborg), would Dark Panther immediately get the effect and destroy the Zaborg?

Thanks!

Nope. Not even close for several reasons.

1) Dark Panther would have to be on the field in order to activate his effect of "becoming" another card.
2) Even if you chose Zaborg, Zaborg gets his effect when you tribute summon him. Dark Panther in this case was special summoned (not to mention he'd already be on the field before he could take Zaborg's abilities).

Ah, darn. I knew it was too good to be true. Both cards are new to me and I haven't used them yet.

Thanks.

But if he's on the field already, he'd get Zaborg's effect if he was Summoned, right?

Technically yes, but Zaborg's effect only works when it's Tribute Summoned. There's no way you can Tribute Summon Neo-Spacian Dark Panther while it's already on the field, so the effect is useless.

Maybe you didnt quite understand what densetsu_x was trying to tell you.

Zaborg the Thunder Monarch only gets his effect when Tribute Summoned. Neo-Spacian Dark Panther cannot copy Zaborg's effect because he is already on the field, and he cannot copy a effect that requires him to be Tributed to the field.

Ah, ok. I think I get it now.

Dark Panther would only get the effect from Zaborg if Dark Panther could somehow be tributed (which, obviously he cannot).

But if say Jinzo, or any other tribute monster is already on the field, and I summon the Panther, he can copy that monster's effect, right?

Yes you are right, it will copy Jinzo.

But being totally technicall, the effect of any monster will be copied, but in the case of the Monarchs nothing will be accomplished.

Let's not forget that "Neo-Spacian Dark Panther"s effect is Spell Speed 1 and can only be activated during the Main Phase of the controller's turn. Even if it did work the way you wanted it to, you wouldn't be able to copy anything during your opponent's turn.
