Dark World effect's activate in the Graveyard. From the FAQ:

"¢ "Necrovalley" will NOT negate effects that are activated when a card is sent TO the Graveyard or that activate IN the Graveyard or that count cards in the Graveyard. So it will NOT negate the effects of "Sangan", "Witch of the Black Forest", "Black Pendant", "Giant Rat", "Mystic Tomato", "Kuriboh", "Graceful Charity", "Sinister Serpent", "Marie the Fallen One", "Buster Blader", "Shadow Ghoul", "Helpoemer", "Sword of Deep-Seated", "Vampire Lord", "Coffin Seller", and "Magical Thorn".

So that should answer it for you.

I get upset everytime I'm reminded of this rule, because it's certainly not sticking true to what "Necrovalley" IS. To me it is a land protected by the Gravekeepers in order to make sure what gets put into the graveyard STAYS in the graveyard. Of course lately I'd be wrong to assume as much. From what I hear the lore to Magic never had any real contradictions like that.

i agree with oceanus. but i'm just a player, not a rule maker. On the other hand though, if it did stop cards like Sangan and such, it'd be an infinately more popular card.

that's always confused me, whether the DW effects activate IN the graveyard, or are a trigger effect, like Mystic Tomato.

It works yes...as a matter of fact it works quite wonderfully. Try the card Royal Tribute with you Necrovalley and Dark World monsters....you'll absolutely adore the look on your opponent's face should you pull this off in the first couple of turns....makes the whole game worth playing!
