Welcome to the first issue of Deck Builders here on COG. I would like to start off by saying this is a perspective only. I am not saying that a particular deck must be built as I describe it, nor do I intend on building "Net Decks". Comments are welcomed only if they are constructive and contribute to the subject. Just posting to say something "sucks" or other attempts to spam will be reported to a moderrated for further review. And as I always say, "Duel and Laugh."
The Light Deck
Lets get to building. Today's theme is Light Attrubute Decks. Now with the days of Chaos behind us, there is more potential for Atrubute based decks. :yu_light Light based decks have a lot to offer in monsters, spells and traps.
Here are some monsters that I would put into a Light Based Deck and why.
Cyber Dragon: A Light type Machine with 2100 ATK and the ability to special summon without tribute if you have no monsters and your opponent has at least one. This can make for a great 2 Monster Attack system, or for tribute for monsters like Jinzo...but sadly since Jinzo is a dark type...there isn't room for him. But there are other monsters that are light types that provide great effects and the same ATK. Cyber Dragon is a versitile card that is great in any deck and perfect in a Light Deck. I'll add three to todays Deck Builder's Deck.
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch: Speaking Jinzo replacements, Zaborg's effect is when it is tribute summoned successfully, you can destroy one monster on the field. There is two drawbacks to this. One is you cannot use Mausoleum of the Emperor or Special summon it to get the effect, and two, if Zaborg is the only monster it must destroy itself. But that taken into consideration, Zaborg is a great light type to have. I'll add two.
Otohime: Here is an underrated Light Spirit monster that has a Enemy Controller Effect when Normal Summoned or flipped face up. The major drawbacks to this card is it is a Spirit Monster so it won't stay on the field for more than a turn, and the Low ATK/DEF. With this in mind a well placed Otohime combined with Cyber Dragon can be very helpful. I'll add two
Soul of Purity and Light: This is a monster with 2000 ATK and decreases the attack of your opponent's monsters by 300 points during thier Battle phase. Now I know it is not much, and the way to get it to the out is by removing 2 Lights from the graveyard can be a big turn off for deck builders, but it can provide that extra summon needed to get bigger stuff out. For now I'll add two.
Airknight Parshath: A great light type that got abused in the early days of Chaos and now in the hayday of Fairy Decks. a Solid 1900 ATK and built in Fairy Meteor Crush Effect, and allows you to draw when you do Damage. This si a nice card indeed. But for it being a one tribute the ATK is still lacking, but none of the less, is a great Light type. I'll add one.
Blade Knight: a Solid 1600 ATK, gains 400 ATK for having a small hand size, and if alone on the field a Flip Effect Negator. A very solid monster that was used in Chaos Decks frequently when decent light monsters were almost non-existant. this is a great card to Top Deck with. I'll add two
Mirage Dragon: 1600 ATK that stops traps from activating during the battle phase. Great for stopping those nasty Mirror Forces or Battle Phase Ring of Destructions. Still a low ATK for the current Meta-Game, it can hold it's own against most decks that rely of traps to help stop damage. I'll add in two.
Breaker the Magical Warrior: While not a Light type monster, it is in the deck for it's effect of removing Spells and Traps. Can only add one.
Exiled Force: Again not a light type but in the deck for it's effect, Monster Removal. Tributing this bad boy to destroy some of the biggest monsters on your opponent's field is still a good thing. Add in 2
What we have so far:
Cyber Dragon x3
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch x2
Otohime x2
Soul of Purity and Light x2
Airknight Parshath x1
Blade Knight x2
Mirage Dragon x2
Breaker the Magical Warrior x1
Exiled Force x2
17 Monsters-Not a bad start.
Now a look into Spells.
Enemy Controller: This is a good way to help stop your opponent's attack or even get a monster that can pierce defences a nice juicy target or even to get controller of your opponent's Monster just for tribute fodder. I'll add two
Smashing Ground: This is another great monster remaoval card that has gotten some game play since Raigeki got banned. This targets the monster with the highest defense on your opponent's side and gets rid of it. In most cases it is also the highest ATK monster it gets. I'll add two.
Lightning Vortex: The Raigeki replacement. While it has to drawbacks, discarding and only face-up monsters are effected, it is still a good card. I'll add one.
Heavy Storm: Do I really need to say it? It's Spell and Trap Removal, adding one.
Mystical Space Typhoon: Again, Spell and Trap Removal is good, and Quick-Play is Nicer. Adding one.
Graceful Charity: Draw power is key to the game. Got to have the cards to win right? Well no deck should be without this card and this deck is no exception. Adding one.
Giant Trunade: This is a nice card getting more play now than before. It returns all spells and traps to owners hands. This is a great card to combo with Premature Burial. I'll add two for now.
Premature Burial: This is a great card to get a tribute monster out or get tribute fodder out for a monster. I can't see running a deck without one. Adding one.
For Spells we have:
Enemy Controller x2
Smashing Ground x2
Lightning Vortex x1
Heavy Storm x1
Mystical Space Typhoon x1
Graceful Charity x1
Giant Trunade x2
Premature Burial x1
11 Spells, Good start.
Now onto Traps.
Mirror Force: Monster Destruction is always good to have and Mirror Force can get the job done quite nicely. I'll add one.
Ring of Destruction: Quick, Effective, Monster Removal, and Damage all in one is a great card. Drawback is that you also take Damage. Adding one.
Torrential Tribute: Can't say this enough. Monster Removal. This is a Handy Card if your opponent likes to have 3-5 summoned in one turn. Spring this card on them and thier eyes just pop out. :cog_eek . Adding one to the Deck.
Call of The Haunted: More Monsters usually means more damage, and Call of The Haunted can cover that part. Adding one is a good thing.
Sakuretsu Armor: The Mini-Mirror Force is a good card to stop high ATK Monsters. Definately adding two.
Magic Cylinder: Send ATK Damage back to your Opponent and take none yourself. this is a good card for that. Adding one into the deck.
Solar Ray: This card deals 600 Damage to your opponet for each Light Monster you have on the field. 3000 Damage potential is a good thing. Adding two to the deck.
Ceasefire: 500 Damage for each effect monster on the field and negate Flip Effects (Not When Flipped Face Up Effects like Otohime). this a a keeper. Adding one to the deck.
Waboku: This card has more abuse potential than Injection Fairy Lily with Fiber Jar and almost enough rulings and examples to give Last Turn! a run for it's money. Adding two wouldn't hurt
Royal Decree: Stopping Traps is always good. Opponent activating Mirror Force? Decree that thing! Opponent activating Call of The Haunted? Decree it! Adding one.
Dust Tornado: Spell and Trap Removal is essential, thats why I am adding one in this deck.
What we have for Traps:
Mirror Force x1
Torrential Tribute x1
Call of The Haunted x1
Sakuretsu Armor x2
Magic Cylinder x1
Solar Ray x2
Ceasefire x1
Waboku x2
Royal Decree x1
Dust Tornado x1
13 Traps, a Little heavy but still good.
The Final Product for this Deck Builders:
Cyber Dragon x3
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch x2
Otohime x2
Soul of Purity and Light x2
Airknight Parshath x1
Blade Knight x2
Mirage Dragon x2
Breaker the Magical Warrior x1
Exiled Force x2
Enemy Controller x2
Smashing Ground x2
Lightning Vortex x1
Heavy Storm x1
Mystical Space Typhoon x1
Graceful Charity x1
Giant Trunade x2
Premature Burial x1
Mirror Force x1
Torrential Tribute x1
Call of The Haunted x1
Sakuretsu Armor x2
Magic Cylinder x1
Solar Ray x2
Ceasefire x1
Waboku x2
Royal Decree x1
Dust Tornado x1
41 Card Deck: That's a good size for a deck to be.
Other Cards that work in a Light Deck is Shining Angel with Proto-Cyber Dragon and Inferno Reckless Summoning. That combined with Solar Ray can cause good damage. Also Majestic Mech-Ohka as well.
Give it a try, you may enjoy it.
Thank you for reading this. Please comment and enjoy.
