DNA Transplant vs. A Legendary Ocean

Player A activates A Legendary Ocean
Player B chains with DNA Transplant, selecting FIRE (or any attribute other than WATER)
Player A summons a Giga Gagagigo (considered a level 4 in the hand due to ALO's Effect)

Question: if Giga Gagagigo is still considered a WATER type on the hand but a FIRE type on the field, then if it's summoned, is a tribute required? I mean since the transfer of summoning it from hand to field kinda screws things up. Get what I'm asking?

Tributes are offered at the same time as the summon takes place. DNA Transplant only affects monsters that are on the field. To bring a monster to the field you have to SUMMON it.

Thus, Giga Gagagigo was already summoned by the time it changes into a fire monster and regains its 5th star--No tribute is required.

Actually, the sacrifice will take place before the summon does. There is no timing within the tribute summon to activate effects, but they do happen at two different times.

:boxing: I aways read the rules and it says :-oDeclare 1 Attribute when you activate this card. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, the Attribute of :wink:all face-up monsters on the field  becomes the one you declared so in yor hand it still has 4 starsa (level) so it needs no tributes :boom:
long live to ALO

DNA Transplant will have no effect on monsters in your hand, so if it is a non-water monster it will require a tribute no matter what (if it's level 5 or above of course).

Just because I saw Cyber Jar mentioned with A Legendary Ocean in an earlier thread. What does happen with Water monsters picked up by Cyber Jar's effect when A Legendary Ocean is active on the field. Would a Level 5 water be summoned or go to the hand?

They will go to your Hand.

The cards are "picked-up" and not considered to be in your Hand, so ALO will cannot alter the Star Level.

Hope that helps
