Drillroid CRV-EN009

Drillroid
Effect Monster (Machine / EARTH / 4 Stars / ATK 1600 / DEF 1600)

If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, destroy the monster with this card's effect without applying damage calculation.

"¢ "Drillroid" can use its effect to destroy face-up and face-down Defense Position monsters that it attacks.

"¢ Note that "Drillroid" does not say "without flipping the monster face-up". The effect of "Drillroid" is applied after the monster is flipped face-up, but before damage calculation. If the Defense Position monster was face-down and has a Flip Effect, the Flip Effect will activate and resolve normally.

"¢ The effect of "Drillroid" is a Trigger Effect that can be chained to.

"¢ If "Drillroid" attacks a face-up "Sasuke Samurai #4", do the coin toss for "Sasuke Samurai #4" first, at the beginning of the Damage Step. If "Sasuke Samurai #4" destroys "Drillroid" with its effect, the effect of "Drillroid" is not applied. (If "Sasuke Samurai #4" was face-down, then you miss the chance to use its effect.)

"¢ If "Drillroid" attacks "Dreamsprite", both are mandatory Trigger Effects with the same timing, so they form a chain with "Dreamsprite" as Chain Link 2. "Dreamsprite" resolves first and, according to her effect, causes damage calculation to happen immediately. Since the effect of "Drillroid" only happens without damage calculation, the effect of "Drillroid" disappears.

"¢ If "Drillroid" attacks a Defense Position "D.D. Warrior Lady", the effect of "D.D. Warrior Lady" does not activate, because she has been destroyed by the effect of "Drillroid" by the time her effect would normally activate.

"¢ If "Drillroid" attacks a face-down Defense Position monster while "Final Attack Orders" is active, the monster is not destroyed because it flips face-up and immediately shifts to Attack Position.

"¢ "Nightmare Penguin" will activate its effect if attacked by "Drillroid" while face-down. (Just like a Flip Effect.)

"¢ [Re: Giant Kozaky] If "Drillroid" attacks a face-down "Giant Kozaky" while "Kozaky" is not on the field, "Giant Kozaky" is destroyed by the effect of "Drillroid" after being flipped face-up. The effect of "Giant Kozaky" is not applied and it does not inflict damage.

Ahh, the mighty Drillroid, overall, I really like this card. It's a very solid card, and really handy for negating the rampant D. D. Assailants that get set 1st turn. I'll get to more on it in the actual review.

This card comboes really well with cards such as Windstorm of Etaqua, Enemy Controller, etc. It also works well as a tool when used with Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane.

This card has a lot going for it. Solid stats of 1600/1600 make it able to kill most things, it may be unsearchable, but such is the price of its effect. It also benefits from Machine support, which can easily turn it into a Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning killer.

This card's main weaknesses include that it does indeed trigger flip effects. Also, if they have a defense mode Vampire Lord, you can't kill it by battle with Drillroid, even if you wish, Drillroid's effect will kill it regardless.

This card should be played as a tool, not for it's ATK value. Granted, 1600 ATK is solid, but its effect is where it shines.

This card is awesome in Machine decks, and also functions well in Earth decks and Roid decks.

Continuing Roid week, we take a look at one of the best monsters of their type.
Drillroid has a below avarage 1600 ATK. While it can barely hit a Naked Breaker, or Tribe-Infecting Virus, it can effectivly be one of the deadliest monster removeal engine ever. Combine this card with 3 Enemy Controllers, 1 Book of Moon and a Swords of Concealing Light, and you got yourself the best monster removal ever. This can destoy even the largest wall of defense, no matter if its Black Luster Soldier or Labyrinth Wall, Drillroid can deal with them all.

While Drillroid has it's ups, it also has it's downs. To use Drillroid effectivly, you must combine it with other cards, meaning you have to base your deck stratagy for dealing with DEF position monsters.

BUMP!

This card, too, was in line for a re-review with the new ban-list. Why? With Nobleman of Crossout being dropped back to 1 per deck, Drillroid makes a nice addition. Drillroid's effect takes care of anything in defense without really worrying about the effect. Just keep in mind, a flip-effect still activates.

And as mentioned, this is great against D. D. Assailant which we're almost sure to see even more of.
