Emergency Provisions

If I have a Wave Motion Cannon with three counters on it (3000 lp hit) and I have an Emergency Provisions down. It is my opponents turn and he draws a MST and targets my Wave Motion Cannon can I use my Emergency Provisions to send Wave Motion Cannon to the grave yard and gain 1000 lp and my opponent lose 3000 lp?

I just read you have to send WMC to the grave yard during your main phase.

Sorry for the question.

You can indeed use Emergency Provisions to tribute Wave Motion Cannon, however you will only gain 1000LP, your opponent will not lose any LP as Wave Motion Cannon needs to be sent to the Graveyard by it's own effect not that of another card to inflict its damage.

Unfortunately not, WMC is one of those rare cards that needs to send it self to the graveyard by its effect in order to get the full benefit. There are plenty of other cards that you can activate, chain EP to at the end, and get their effects while getting the LP boost too. My personal favorite is chaining Waboku + Enchanted Javelin + Emergency Provisions when you opponent moves in for the kill with their BLS to get a BIG boost with no damage.

The tributing of a spell/trap (or many) card happens when you activate EP, it's a cost, but as long as those traps were activated earlier in the chain they can be tributed for EP and will still resolve.

You can of course still send WMC to the Graveyard, as stated earlier, but the effect of WMC will not be applied since the cost was not paid. In certain situations it may be worth it to use it as such, rather than let the card go to waste if it gets Heavy Stormed or MST'd.

I thought inorder to activate EP you had to send a card to the graveyard and chain to it. Like sending WMC to the graveyard for its effect during your Main Phase and then chaining EP to WMC to get EP effect.

But that would be sending it to the Graveyard for WMC's effect, not EP's, it's like how you can't use a monster tributed for some other reason to activate Cannon Soldier/Catapult Turtle's effect.

Emergency Provisions does not need to be used in a chain to send cards to the Graveyard. It is a Quick-Play, but that only means that you CAN chain it to a card Spell Speed 2 and below if they are activated prior to activating Emergency Provisions.

But you're as well off activating it as a chain to the activation of other spell/trap cards since it won't negate anything which was already activated, just hope your opponent doesn't put in a counter-trap into the chain before you get to add EP.

There's no difference if you offer as a cost with Emergency Provision with Dust Tornado.

But if you were to offer along with Wave Motion Cannon, you woulnd't get the effect because Wave Motion Cannon must be tributed through it's own effect in order to do damage with it.

Wave-Motion Cannon is a continuous spell card. It activates and resolves in your spell and trap zone where it will remain until you tribute it, or its destroyed, or returned to your hand. You must tribute IT as a cost for ITS effect to do direct damage or it will disappear. Otherwise, you could just get its effect anytime its sent to the Graveyard.

Dust Tornado is a non-continuous trap card that activates, resolves, and is then sent to the Graveyard by Game Mechanics.

If you activate Dust Tornado and chain Emergency Provisions to it, the resolution will send EP and Dust Tornado to the Graveyard and you will gain 1000 lp in the process. Meanwhile, since EP does not negate any effects of cards that were in the chain, you could use Dust Tornado's effect to destroy a card on your opponents side of the field AND set a spell or trap card from your hand.

Using "tribute" and "sacrifice" as a reference to "sending" Wave-Motion Cannon to the Graveyard is the same in principle and really not worth getting upset over since both words in this case result in gaining something for removing a card from the field, whereas stating that Wave-Motion Cannon gains "counters" is totally wrong, as that is not part of WMC's effect and could lead to the incorrect play of cards that remove counters.

As long as we're addressing Emergency Provisions....please tell me I'm not the only one who had to eat crow the first time someone told you that they can activate Emergency Provisions on an active Imperial Order and send it as a cost of activation without Emergency Provisions negating the effect? <smirk>

It took me a minute (and an apology) to figure how that one worked. I swear, the more I learn about this game the more I realize I don't know!
