Emes the Infinity DBT-001

Emes the Infinity; DBT-001 (Destiny Board Traveler...must be some kind of promo card for a console game or whatever...get it on eBay)

Type: Machine
Attribute: LIGHT
Level: 7
ATK: 2500
DEF: 2000

Effect: Each time this card destroys an opponent's monster and sends it to the Graveyard as a result of battle, increase the ATK of this card by 700 points.

Fine, now that's one card with a pretty straightforward effect. Not 7 barely readable lines of effect text like on Paladin of White Dragon, no endless rulings listed as for Skill Drain, just one simple line of text. Fine, fine.

A look at his stats, his weaknesses, the solutions to them, and a summary.

I. Infinity.

Machine-type is nice, quite supported, LIGHT makes it usable to some degree for Chaos, 2000 DEF is average, will at least stop Vampire Lord and Airknight Parshath (bad translation for Perseus or what it was), though Emes the Infinity is not a defensive monster.
So 2500 original ATK is enough to take out every unboosted one-tribute monster except Guardian Grarl, Skull Archfiend of Lightning, Summoned Skull, Toon Summoned Skull, Spirit of the Pharaoh and The End of Anubis.

His effect activates whenever he destroys a monster (ANY kind of monster, not a specific kind of monster, like with Insect Princess) as a result of battle, and gains him 700 ATK. So let's take a look at this process:

2500 (no monster destroyed) beaten by above mentioned or stronger monsters (Horus, BLS, many rituals...)
3200 (one monster destroyed) beaten only by 11 mostly hard to summon monsters, 3 of which do suicide then
3900 (two monsters destroyed) beaten only by Master of Oz
4600 (three monsters destroyed) YOU RULE!
5300 (four monsters destroyed) MUAHAHAHA!

Ok, pure theory until now. What's going on when actually playing this guy?

II. Which Infinity?

As you see from the above, with 2500 ATK there are still many possible threats (even a GAF with Gaia Power, remember EARTH decks?), but after having destroyed one monster, you'll be quite safe from monster attacks.

To make it short, the main difficulty is to bring him out at the right point of time (when your enemy has at least one weaker monster on the field), which also means that you must have two tributes on the field. OH WAIT, HE'S LIGHT, Kaiser Sea Horse would suffice. The world has been saved.
But you see the main problem: when you have two monsters on the field and your enemy doesn't have anything stronger than a Dark Ruler Ha Des, you either are winning and don't need Emes or your enemy is preparing to defend himself with a trap or quick spell or flip effect.
And that means that you might have to destroy set S/T cards and worry about Flip Effects. Oh my...

III. That Infinity, stupid!

To make sure his first attack gets through, you have several options, most of which would better be integrated in the deck pretty well, putting cards in just for Emes the Infinity is at least daring...

- Field Spell. when playing a LIGHT deck, Luminous Spark is fine, and a 3000 Emes will have less problems. (Add a Kishido Spirit and you can take on BLS-EotB or Horus LV 8)
- Use a combination of 2 out of the following three cards (or use all 3 of them :) ): Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce, Limiter Removal and Heavy Mech Support Platform.
  1. Tryce + Limiter: (Machine-deck. D'oh). Ok, let's make use of the Machine-type...Summon (2500), equip (2000), Limiter (4000), attack (4700) attack again (5400), Dimensionhole. :D
  2. Tryce + Support Platform: compensation for the ATK loss plus protection should you hit a Man-Eater Bug or be trapped with, say, Sakuretsu Armor
  3. Limiter + Support Platform: 6000 ATK, and next turn 6400. :p
Limiter Removal and Heavy Mech Support Platform are useful on their own, as well, Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce needs another card (Luminous Spark as a third possibility). This gives quite a number of possibilities concerning you maybe won't always have a certain 2- or 3-card-combination on your hand, but can use any combination and 3 out of 4 support cards on their own.
- No Nomi or even summoning restrictions. drop him into the graveyard, special summon him right back.

IV. Now is there any Infinity or what?

Pro:
- he can become a mean beatstick
- even 2500 ATK will take down a lot
- many possibilities for eventually needed support: Luminous Spark in LIGHT-decks, Limiter Removal and Heavy Mech Support Platform in Machine decks, Kaiser Sea Horse for tribute summon
- the support can be implemented into your other deck ideas/your deck theme
- just let him hit the graveyard first and then special summon him from there
- he's laughing at Scapegoats
- Never underestimate the pressure a monster that gets stronger and stronger puts on your opponent!

Con:
- 2500 ATK won't take down everything :(
- 2 tributes is very expensive nowadays...who plays 2-tribute monsters anymore, and then one without an instantly game-winning effect? all those envoys and the like set new standards, oh my!
- he needs support, or at least will benefit greatly from that
- Book of Moon or Tsukuyomi will reset his effect
- so will Skill Drain, right?
- you MUST protect this expensive guy from effects and S/T, but it's not too difficult (Union. Union. I say Union, dammit!)
- don't laugh, but his artwork reminds me of a fridge. why do I always review cards that look like kitchen appliances?

You CAN put him into your deck, but this will increase the chance of a deathdraw most of the time. Especially in a Rock/Earth or ALO/WATER or Fiend/Necrofear deck :D . Huh, better give it a try in a LIGHT or Machine deck, especially if you already play the cards mentioned above (which will hold true for quite a bunch of them).

I really like using Emes the Infinity.... I have actually had him up to 4600 Attack, and with 2 Seven Tools and a Magic Jammer Down, I was pretty fearless with his attacking. I currently run him in my Machine Swarming Deck... It is great when brought out with Reasoning or A Hero Emerges..

Overall, If you can protect him, he is a great beatstick to have around. Fairy Meteor Crush anyone?? or Big Bang Shot?? hmmm... He just gets bigger and bigger... I like having it... and its great BLS fodder as well...

My Mate uses Emes against sonn beats up one blues eyes so I take it down with Berserk dragon. But he does get a insane ammount of attack points. Thats makes him cool. I rather stick to my Blue Eyes.

Hammer Shot can take care of him.

Pole Position can kill him, and not to mention its more of a deck based around a monster type deck that really annoys.

whats more annoying than a deck that only listens to 1 card.

a deck with just randome cards trown in.

I got owned both times I used this card. Once by a Magic Cylinder that took out 3900 LP's and finished me then and there.

The other time, when someone activated Ring of Destruction and Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment and totally PWNED me.

This card could be fun I guess, but make sure you watch out for those set s/ts!!

Lets not forget Kaiser Sea Horse, pretty easy way and probably the most convenient I suppose. Reasoning is good idea too.

Strike Ninja, yes that's a start, but there are better tributes for Strike Ninja decks.
