Equip Cards

Okay, now this has always been a little confusing for me.

Equip cards I understand that when the monster they are equipped to is destroyed, so is the equip card and it is off to the graveyard. If the equip card is destroyed by Mystical Space Typhoon or the like, it goes to the graveyard.

HOWEVER, what happens to the equip cards if the monster it is equipped to is returned to your hand? (e.g. by Penguin Soldier's effect)

I have played a Gameboy Advance version of YGO (Eternal Duelist) and all that happens is the equip card just stays on the field as a useless waste of space taking up 1 precious magic/trap zone.

What is really meant to happen.

Oh, and side question: I'm pretty much 99% sure of this, but you cannot change the monster an equip card is equipped to correct? E.g. switching Black Pendent from one monster to another in Main Phases or anything (one of my friends seems to believe you can).

Hey Ultiheart !!!

If you have an Equip Spell card on a monster, and somehow the monster gets returned to your hand (Compulsory Evacuation Device; Hade-Hane; Guardian Sphinx, etc.), the Equip Spell card is considered to be destroyed and is sent to the graveyard.

As to your side question; your friend is incorrect...you can't change the Equip Spell Card's target once it's equipped to a monster.

Hope that helps.

If the monster is returned to your hand from the field, any equip card on the field would be sent to the graveyard.

Yes, you can not manually change the target of an equip spell after it's activated.  Upon activation you choose a target for it and then the spell resolves and equips to the monster.  It can not be changed from that monster unless by the effect of a card (ie. Collective Power).

The equip spell is not considered "destroyed" it's just simply sent to the graveyard, this mainly goes for cards like Fusion Blade (whatever it's full name is, heh, it's for warriors and says it can not be destroyed). This equip would still be sent to the graveyard, also with Butterfly Dagger, if the monster it's equipped to is returned to your hand or sent to the graveyard, you can not return Dagger because it was not "destroyed" it was just simply sent to the graveyard.

While we are on the topic of equip cards, I've had this problem with two different people so far. Concerning Blast with Chain, it says that if it is destroyed by the effect of another card, then you can destroy a card on the field. However, the people I have played seem to think that if I kill the monster equipped with it, they are allowed to destroy a card on the field since Blast with Chain is destroyed. Is there any official rulings on this?

BwC has to be destroyed with cards like MST.
When the monster on which BwC is equipped is destroyed, BwC is sent to the GY, and its effect will NOT activate.

Okay, thanks. That's what I thought, but I needed someone else to validate my thinking to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Makes this very confusing:

Subject: Equips Spells Destroyed Vs. Sent

Both "Blast with Chain" and "Dark Necrofear" specifically state that their
effects activate when destroyed by a card effect.

Being destroyed because the monster you were equipped to isn't there anymore is
not "being destroyed by a card effect".

Seems that Kevin just failed in a word. I'm sure he wanted to specify "sent to the graveyard because the monster you were equipped to isn't there anymore" instead of "destroyed because the monster you were equipped to isn't there anymore". The grammar in the question might have confused him, I think.
