Sure, it's an off year, but here in Maryland* we do have some pretty important positions to elect, at least. I'm pretty pumped. I did all my homework, ignored all the television ads, and have my little sample ballot all filled out and ready to go.

If you need help choosing, a simple Google search can usually lead you to a number of articles and interviews that might assist you. Around here, the League of Women Voters publishes a non-partisan newsletter (by including interviews of the candidates and no opinions) that might be available in your areas as well. I found it very helpful for the minor positions you usually don't hear much about. (Guy who changes the oil in the Governor's car, for example).

You can't make a difference if you don't voice your opinions! Take the time if you can .... it really is important, you know.

* - Ah yes ... Maryland. Gaining national attention for our complete electoral breakdown earlier in the year. It's all good -- I have my needle nose pliers and my soldering gun in case something goes wrong :D

Hay, here in WV, ya vote for who ever pays you the most! Just kidding. Well, not in my county! Or the next county. There only dead people seem to vote regularly! AND, I wish that was a JOKE! :(

The biggest "platform" for a true change would be if they vow to change campain funding where "interest groups" and such could not "buy" someone. This is a BIG thing in figuring out who to vote for. Someone not BOUGHT and paid for!

We also were a "swing" state for the presedental elections since we were won from the Dems. Now, who knows. We will see!

It's not just important, it's your duty as an American. And like a wise man once told me, if you don't vote you don't have the right to complain about the guy (or woman) that wins.

I'll be voting here in Pennsylvania. Though in many of the pairings, it seems to be a matter of selecting the lesser of two evils. *sigh* The beauty of the two party system.

Yea, the 2 party system only works when you are in colege!

Here we have other small, so called, parties. They don't receive the monsy so never have a chance. They only really go for the Govoners race.

I'm hoping that when I vote tomorrow, the automated messages will stop calling me.

And THAT'S the best reason of all! Today alone I've had calls from Bill Clinton, Rudy Guiliani, and somehow ... Jimmy Hoffa :D The last one was the most disturbing. Something about whacking my goldfish if I didn't vote for the right guy. LOL. Joke's on him -- I don't have a goldfish!

Oh, I can't wait for even those weird Burger King ads to come back onto TV. NO MAS! NO MAS! I don't care if it's not even really his puppy! (Maryland senatorial candidate joke)

(Please note that I meant no disrepect to Mr. Hoffa or his family. No goldfishes were injured during this post. They told me to say that.)

I don't know about where the rest of you live...but here in Iowa it's widely agreed that the negitive campaigning has sunk to an all time low. I'm as patriotic as the next person mind you....but I'm among the vast group that feels that there are very few candidates who we'd not be ashamed to have as a elected official of this state. Quite honestly very few of them have enough class to do so.

Yes I'll vote....and I'll be shaking my head sadly the whole time.

Vote 'None of the Above'.

Sorry, Brewster's Millions was on this weekend.

There are a couple of candidates here who I have not even seen a positive ad for. And by that I mean an ad listing their accomplishments and reasons for being the best option as opposed to just mudslinging. I guess the best thing to say is, at least they are being bipartisan about it. ;)

I got my sticker!

On that note... here's a political add I saw on TV

Though I found it extreemly hilarious... I didn't vote for the guy

Ugh. I find TV so annoying. You get a guy with a 20,000 vote lead that's growing, and he's declared the loser "by a wide margin" :D

I work for a ratings and demographics company, and I still don't understand how you can extrapolate the answers from 100 people into a definitive statement for what 100,000 people think. I do know that it does work, and it's highly accurate (at least in the world of radio listening numbers), but it's so frustrating!!!!

Perhaps I'm just upset that I never ever get exit-polled :huh Of course, if they did ask me I'm the type of person to give them the wrong answer to screw them up. LOL.

Well, it's looking like I'm about 50/50 on my chosen state and local representatives, so ... coolness :D Go democracy! I get to be happy AND complain. Tell me this isn't a wonderful system.

Would you look at that. There's some guy running for office in my home town named Hal Jordan. :glantern

Two parties "work" because people are imperfect. They don't always vote for who they actually WANT to win, they vote for the person closest to their ideals that has a good chance of winning. Lesser of two evils, sort of. Well, for some, that doesn't apply if they think that the person that fits the above criteria will win anyhow.

So the priorities are:
1) Lesser of the two greatest evils
2) Who they actually want to win

The gap between the two depends on the person.

Wow, Schwarzenegger won again. And here I thought everyone hated him. How'd he pull that one out of the can? There's a Terminator joke here somewhere, but it's beneath me to make it ... Okay, it's not beneath me, I'm just too tired to make it.

From Late Night with David Letterman:

Top Ten Questions To Ask Yourself Before Voting For Schwarzenegger

10. "Do I feel comfortable having a governor who oils his chest?"

9. "Have I thoroughly considered Stallone, Van Damme and Seagal?"

8. "Is 'Come on, it'll be funny' a good reason to vote for someone?"

7. "Has he done enough to make California a laughingstock?"

6. "How can I be sure he'll be just as Schwarzeneggy this time around?"

5. "Can I bench-press more today than I could three years ago?"

4. "What would Predator do?"

3. "Will he cut taxes on steroids?"

2. "He won't embarrass us, will he?"

1. "Have I lost my mind?"

and not only did he win, but he had nearly double the votes than Angelides, who I believe conceded before all the votes were counted.
That kind of goes against my philosophy of dueling; keep fighting until your last life point is gone. Never scoop.

I should duel Phil. If I have double his life points, I can get him to concede.
