Fairy Box LON-EN024

Fairy Box
Continuous Trap

Each time a monster on your opponent's side of the field attacks, toss a coin and call Heads or Tails. If you call it right, the attacking monster's ATK becomes 0 only during the Battle Phase. Pay 500 Life Points during each of your Standby Phases. If you do not, this card is destroyed.

A unique and truly underrated card for battle defense. You have a 50/50 chance of reducing the attack of any creature to 0. For 500 life poitns/turn, you can keep this up and totally frustrate your opponent. If they attack an attack position creature, their monster would be destroyed as well if you call the coin toss correctly. Even better, let them crash into a defense position "Stone Statue of the Aztecs" (4000 damage potentially in 1 shot). Granted there is a luck factor and eventually the life point cost will get to you, though in the right deck ("Last Turn" anyone?) this card is a nasty surprise that noone will want to see.

A pretty cool card. I remember using it a few times in the GBA games. True, probability isn't truly chaotic like in a real game but it's still fairly close. For a small price of 500 Life points, you get destroy the opponent's monster by reducing their attack to zero. I'm suprise that it doesn't see more play.

Yeah it depends on luck and 500 does add up but there a way to get around that. two Life-absorbing machines for example can take care of that. Or better yet Solemn wishes. Each turn you'll gain enough life points to pay for fairy box. As the name may hint, a fairy deck could make good use of this card. Many fairy cards focus on life point increase and this card is perfect for taking adavntage of those spare life points. Yes, it only has a 50/50 chance but come on. That's as good as it gets. You're destroying the opponent's monster AND giving them damage equal to the ATK of the monster they attacked. You're monster are pretty getting effects of the pieces of the gate guardian. And if you have two of them, then you can flip a coin twice. Hopefully you get it right with one of them. And the current ATK of the monster cannot be increased further after the effect goes through unless they can increase their ATK through their own effect like Injection Fairy Lily. So no 'rush recklessly' or anything of the sort. Not that it'll make much of a difference.

Downsides? Plenty. You can't always depend on it to pull your rump outta the fire. Eventually like gambling, you lose the coin toss and it may very cost you the game. It has a cost. The opponent merely has to destroy your life pointing gaining cards to force you to eventually get rid of it. Then There is human error when you actually toss a coin. If you can't toss a coin properly... well then's it no longer 50/50.

The cost isn't a real big issue.

THink of it this way: the odds are that you'll flip right half the time: Half the time you reduce your opponents monster by 100% and half the time by 0% (100+0)/2 = 50%

Mirror Wall reduces your opponents monsters by 50% all the time.

Fairy Box's 500LP is only one quarter of Mirror Wall's 2000. (fairybix jsut doesn't work all the time like mirror wall, but when you considered its longevity it seems to be better than mirror wall)

The luck factor: gambling isn't a good strategy, however, it is your Opponent that has to gamble when you have fairy box on the field. Fairy Box can shut down your opponent from attacking completely when you have it on the field.

With a Second Coin Toss, the odds become 75%.
Plus, your opponent has a 3000 ATKer on the field. Put a Sheep Token in attack position and your opponent will be scared. :D
Truly, I love this card.
