Field Barrier

I have two questions , but lets try this one first.

I have field barrier and a "A legendary Ocean" could I active Levia Dragon Deadalus?
(I was wondering if field cards can be tributed or not.)

And if so... what happens?

I'm thinking that you can't and that's because of the ruling listed:

If a mandatory effect is activated that would destroy a Field Spell Card while this card is in play, that Field Spell Card is not destroyed.

Since the tribute of Umi or Legendary Ocean is mandatory for the effect of Levia, I'm thinking that this won't work with Field Barrier on the field. In order to tribute Umi or Legendary Ocean for Levia's effect, you must first destroy Field Barrier.

Wow

You guys answer fast

Anyways...

I was thinking that there is a difference between sending cards to the graveyard and destroying them

And since field barrier won't let me destroy field cards they still can be remove from the field. Right?

Your right, there is a difference. Field Barrier only protects Field Spell Cards from being destroyed and activated. Levia-Dragon - Daedalus requires neither of these, it just needs you to send Umi/A Legendary Ocean to the Graveyard.

So, yes, you can use the effect of Levia-Dragon - Daedalus while Field Barrier is active. Nothing different will happen.

Okay thanks

Now one last thing...

About the ruling HorusMaster said about "If a mandatory effect is activated that would destroy a Field Spell Card while this card is in play, that Field Spell Card is not destroyed."

Just out of curiosity...

When will that apply? (Or does anyone know some examples?)

[info]Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
If this card is destroyed by a card effect, Special Summon this card from the Graveyard during your next Standby Phase. If you Special Summon this card in this way, destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.

Magic Reflector
Select 1 Spell Card that remains face-up on the field and put 1 counter on it. If the selected card is destroyed, the counter is removed instead of the card being destroyed.[/info]Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys for example. When she's destroyed by a card effect, it's mandatory that she return and destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field. Now let's say, for the sake of argument, someone placed a counter on Field Barrier using Magic Reflector, protecting it from Phoenix this turn. When Phoenix tries to destroy Umi, it will be protected by Field Barrier.

I'm sure there's a more straightforward example, but that's all I could think if at this time of the morning. :skull:

Even with Field Barrier, your Field Spell Card would not be safe should you summon Chimeratech Overdragon, for instance. Moreover, You can send it (and your Field Barrier) to the Graveyard to Special Summon Anteatereatingant.

Exactly. The key is that send is not equal to discard. If you were trying to destroy both the Field Spell Card and Field Barrier with the same effect, see the ruling below.

• Cards or effects that would destroy all Spell Cards on the field like "Heavy Storm," or all cards on the field, like "Demise, King of Armageddon," can be activated while this card is in play, but the Field Spell Card will not be destroyed.

First of all... sorry for the double post.

And second...

Something has been bothering me about this card...

The last effect reads like this:

"You can only control 1 face-up "Field barrier" at a time"

The thing is that I don't understand why it has such effect.

Will the world somehow implode by activating a second field barrier?

Or am I missing some kind of powerful effect?

Anyway...

This was just bothering me

It would mean that your opponent would have to get through every Field Barrier you had before he could get to your Field Spell Card. Not terribly earth shattering, but an attempt at being a little balanced nonetheless.

Mmmm.....

I guess it makes sense...

But I don't think I would even bother to have two field barriers at the same time if I could...

Since both can be easily taken down with heavy, gigantes, and that trap cards that works like heavy (Sorry for the names :p)
