Future Fusion and a Barrier Statue

This came up in a recent duel with my son... we know that you can't activate Future Fusion if there's a Barrier Statue blocking the Attribute of the Fusion target... however, my son went first in the duel and activated Future Fusion selecting Five-Headed Dragon (Light) in turn 1 and I had a Barrier Statue of the Drought in my hand. I waited until my next turn (the one before his 2nd Standby Phase after activation of Future Fusion) and Normal Summoned my Barrier Statue of the Drought. We weren't sure what would happen during his Standby Phase but played it that the Future Fusion missed its timing and just sat there meaninglessly. Was that correct?

In a word.... yes

When it tries to ss the monster it cant due to the barrier statue and thus does nothing sitting there using up a s/t space.
