Future Fusion and Vehiroid Connection Zone

I have a question for all of you big brains out there. First, let's look at the wording of Future Fusion:



Send, from your Deck to the Graveyard, Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on a Fusion Monster Card, and select that 1 Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck. Special Summon a Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck with the same name as the selected Fusion Monster during your 2nd Standby Phase after this card's activation. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.) When this card is removed from the field, destroy that monster. When the monster is destroyed, destroy this card.



Now, let's look at Vehiroid Connection Zone:



Send to the Graveyard, from your side of the field or your hand, Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on a "Vehicroid" Fusion Monster Card, and Special Summon that Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.) The Fusion Monster Special Summoned by this card cannot be destroyed by the effects of Spells, Traps, and Effect Monsters, and its effects cannot be negated



Now the ruling for Future Fusion is:



· You cannot use substitute Fusion Material Monsters such as "King of the Swamp". You must use the monsters listed on the Fusion Monster Card.



Can a fusion substitute be used with Vehicroid Connection Zone? There isn't a ruling for this, yet the wording is virtually identical. I'm thinking that it's the same. Comments?


I ask as it came up in a duel last night and I was trying to point out that they have the same wording and would be the same rulings. Was I right or wrong in this thinking?

King of the Swamp does not have an effect in the Deck.

You can use King of the Swamp for any Fusion Summon, as long as the Fusion Monster allows substitues and King of the Swamp is not in your Deck.
(same for other substitute monsters with the same effect as King of the Swamp)

Btw, even Polymerization says "...Fusion Material Monsters that are listed..."

D'oh! I was so concerned with the magic card, I completely forgot to check the actual monster card! Thank you for pointing out that out. You know how it is, your mind gets focused on one aspect and loses sight of the big picture.

Yeah, Jumbo Drill have the effect that if it's Fusion summoned, you cannot use Fusion subs. So for now, no. So it's either Fusion summoning with proper fusion subs, or Special summoning improperly. (e.g. Stein, Metamorphosis, etc.)

A few things.

Yes, Fusion Subs have the ability to be Fusions Subs while in the Deck. They have that ability while in the Hand, Graveyard, Field and RFP Zone already. Why not the Deck?

The reason you can't use Fusion Subs with "Future Fusion" is simply a Because Konami Said So ruling. It is currently the ONLY Fusion Summon method that cannot use Fusion Subs.

So, having said that, to answer the initial question. Yes, you most certainly CAN use Fusion Subs with "Vehicroid Connection Zone". However, as DaGuy kindly pointed out, the only monster you can currently Fusion Summon with "Vehicroid Connection Zone" prevents the use of Fusion Subs.

Just because the monster prevents Fusion Subs, doesn't mean the card can't use them.
