Well, it's as I suspected, though I've known skey for about 3 years now I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting him until this past weekend and my thought pattern was correct, Simon is the class act he portrays here on the forums and his YGO RK is every bit as awesome in person as it is without a reference book or computer to use!
As always, some of the most fun TCG play I enjoy all year is done in the wee hours of the morning following the tournament with other judges who aren't afraid to bring out their non-meta decks. Props to Derek Olar for the audacity of his Zombie deck, props to Simon S. for his tech deck. Guys like this put the fun back in the game IMO.
The judging was very interesting and helpful. I really needed the floor judging time again as I felt I was getting out of touch with it. I'd also felt a little niave as far as how players were cheating up until last weekend....those needs changed after the experience. Nothing shapes a judge up quite like a full 4 days of events and the repetition and wide variety of scenarios one faces in during those days.
More props...
Jell soles (yeah, I was jellin so my knees weren't swellen)
UDE's presentation of what is in store for the upcoming months and the revamping of the judge and specialist programs.
Pete's job of HJing the SJC, he was REALLY on top of things, and outstanding first SJC HJ for him. I was impressed!
Jason L.'s job of team lead of the deck check team. Through his efforts numerous stackers were caught or in the case of uncertainty at least recieved a match loss for "unintentional" marked cards. Half the mid-round deck checks he called for resulted in penalties. Obviously he has a fine eye for such things.
Seeing a burn deck take the SJC
Cheese cake at the spagetti factory!
Beds at the Weston that were heavenly
Niiice WoW EA's in the swag bag! (I don't play WoW much...so these items can be had if I'm properly pursuaded)
