gravity bind

lets say my opponent declares an attack, selects a monster on my side of the field and i activate Magic Cylinder, then he/she chains Gravity Bind. Magic Cylinder still goes through since the time of activation of Magic Cylinder was fullfilled correct? Or does the attack completely stop since Gravity Bind resolves first, and no actual attack really goes through?

your making things more complicated then they have to be hehe

So you opponent attacks

You activate Magic cylinder
he chain Gravity Bind

Resolve in reverse

Gravity bind resolves monsters l4 or higher can't attack (this would stop the attack yes)
Magic Cylinder resolves negating the attack and doing damage.

Now just becuase gbind was used it doesn't mess up cylinder. this is becuase cylinders timing was legal at activation. only thing to stop cylinder (besides negation) is by destroying the target (ie the attacking monster) before cylinder resolves.

You can also turn it face down with Book of Moon, or Remove it from the game, bounce it back to your hand, Lots of ways to stop Cylinders without negating it. ;)

ok, then what happens to that magic Cylinders.... does it go back face down since it ONLY can be activated when someone attacks??? cuz if after the chain resolves it is decided that an attack did not happen, Cylinders cannot be activated right..... (or am i just being lame and overthinking cuz i just woke up??)

The key words are

once it's been activated it doesn't matter if the attack is stopped, as long as it can reference the attack of the monster against which it was activated it will resolve as normal.

The activation is still legal here. It resolution were concerned with here. Magic Cylinder has 2 independent effects, if either one can resolve it will. It only requires Attack Response timing, once activated it will resolve whether the attack is negated previously or not.

In this case, Gravity Bind would negate or stop the attack, and then Magic Cylinder would deal damage.

Ok then.

Does the effect of Magic Cylinder designate a target?

- I attack with Strike Ninja
- opponent activates Magic Cylinder
- i chain removing Strike Ninja from play
resolve.... you get the idea

Doesn't Magic Cylinder have to resolve while the monster still face-up on the field to determine the amount of the attacking monster in order to do damage?

If this case is true, then how can Magic Cylinder do damage if no actual attack went through even though cuz at resolution is when a monster attack is decided to do damage, regardless of correct timing? Doesn't it resolve with no effect?

- I attack
- He plays Magic Cylinder
- I play Gravity Bind
resolve... you get the idea

Yes it does target. It will resolve properly as long as it can find the ATK of the targeted monster. It does not matter if the monster is attacking or not as long as it was activated properly.

With the Strike Ninja, it is not longer on the field so MC can't find the attack.

With Gravity Bind (and no other card effect), the monster is still face-up and MC can find the ATK of the targeted monster thus it will deal damage.
