Hand of Nephthys + brain control vs sacred phoenix of..

my opponent has a sacred phoenix of n.. face up on the field, i play brain control and than i summon Hand of Nephthys and tribute his phoenix in order to summon mine, his phoenix will return on your side of the field on his nex turn or not?

PS. i think not because it was tributed and not destroyed

Your assumption would be correct. Phoenix's effect cannot be activated unless he (she?) was destroyed, and a tributing to pay for a summon or for a card's activation would not cut it.

If you tribute Sacred Phoenix, it will NOT come back, cause that's not destruction. I do it all the time against a foe's SPoN. Either removal, or brain + Tribute.

here's my suggestion with Sacred Phoenix, you should always try to protect it by setting either Ring of Destruction or even that new Trojan Blast. You never ever want your SPoN stolen, ever. It's better to Ring of D your own SPoN rather then getting stolen by Brain, Swap, EC, etc.
