Harpy Ladies Rulings

Ok,, at a local tournament today, I was informed that even though there are 3 different new Harpy Ladies.... you can only have a total of 3 of them.... not 3 of each..... due to the fact that their names are treated as Harpy Lady.... does this story hold water???

Yes, it holds "A Legendary Ocean" amount or water. (Couldn't resist).

When a card mentions that "This card's name is treated as [NAME]" that means that particular card can be used for anything that references the card name. It also means that when it comes to deck building you cannot have more than a grand total of 3 cards with the exact same name.

So with "Umi" / "A Legendary Ocean", you can 3 of 1, 3 of the other, 2 of 1 and 1 of the other, etc. But you can't have 3 "Umi" and 3 "A Legendary Ocean" since that would mean you would have 6 cards named "Umi".

Likewise, "Harpie Lady", "Harpie Lady #1", "Harpie Lady #2", and "Harpie Lady #3" all are named "Harpie Lady". So any of them can be on the field when you activate "Elegant Egotist" or any can be selected by the effet of "Birdface". However you can only have a grand total of 3 of the above (any combination) since they all have the same name: "Harpie Lady".

I heard a rumour that "Harpie Lady 1", "Harpie Lady 2" and "Harpie Lady 3" are going to be reclassified as different monsters, so that up to three of each will be allowed in Decks. Is this rumour founded?

where did u hear this rumour from? i never heard it before, but if its true, thats great :D i'll make my dream harpy deck then ;)

seriously, anyone heard anything abt this? i've always wanted to make a harpy deck but was put off by the rulings..

In a draft do they classify the different harpies as different mosters? I could have sworn I thought they did this...

No they were all still considered Harpie Lady.

However the rule about being only allowed 3 of a card was waived for Draft and Sealed.

So in draft if you drafted 10x Harpy Lady 1's you could include all 10 in your deck. Plus some more Harpy Lady 2 and Harpy Lady 3.

And similarily one could include 4 or 5 of any other card drafted.
