Hello? Hello? Konami?

I'd be very interested to know if anyone on the board actually plays in the OCG (or has played) and what is the environment like? At this point many of our opinions are based on what is relayed to us through UDE. It would be very helpful to get an idea on how Konami interacts with that market to try to figure out if there is any possible alternatives to our current situation.

The idea that they had a hotline for card rulings seems to indicate a more responsive attitude to the gaming community. The incredible number of OCG only released cards also shows that they have had many more promotional releases so the game at least at some prior point was getting attention there that it has not received on this end. Also the number of Structure Decks in Japan would indicate a much different attitude towards the gaming community.

For these reasons I don't think it is fair to say Konami doesn't care about gamers. What is in question is why the lack of support here? Why such lack luster tins? Why are we only now beginning to see decent Structure Decks? Who was making the decisions on what to release in our earlier sets? We've heard before that Konami has exclusive rights to the promotional cards they release and UDE has no control over them, well who sets up the promotions? Who coordinated with McDonalds was it UDE or Konami? If the Konami offices in the U.S. have nothing to do with the TCG then is the same team in Japan in charge of making these decisions for both OCG and TCG, or is it another department that deals with TCG? And has there been a recent reorganization now that our current releases are synchronized?

I don't see why everyone is getting so worked up. That's the way it is and it probably won't change anytime soon, and there is no point trying to change something you'll never be able to control.

It's just a game, who cares if not everything makes sense. Just relax and enjoy it.

Oh sure Xeno! Ruin all the fun <kicking the ground> <smirk> Just who do you think you are with this whole REALITY thing huh? Crushing fantasies about things making sense and having structure....pppfffttt!

i gave up on them when the ruling for Triangle Ecstasy Spark got released.

anybody that reads the card out right knows there is no condition that needs required for the card to be active. but lo and behold there is an invicible marking that states "THis card cannot be activated if Harpie Ladie Sisters isnt on the field"

wished they had added that to Harpies feather duster.

I agree. Triangle Ecstacy would have been very usable without being completely broken without the "errata" and the Duster was entirely and completely broken so they ban it instead of fixing it.

From Reading their posts on Pojo, anyone can see that Kevin and Dan are gamers.
Hence the major problem with UDE at all. And I've said it a thousand times if I've said it once.

To earn the respect of a Japanese Business you need to be able to speak Japanese (as they all learn "English" they feel its only fair). Kevin understands Japanese, but i don't know about other UDE employees.
No. Kevin does not understand Japanese. He has a basic understanding of Japanese culture only because they've pounded it into his head through 'face saving recriminations' on bad American behavior in the past. This doesn't mean that he understands anything at all. And that's not a slam. That's a observation based on several years of close working with UDE on the inside.

So if UDE wants to have an influence on the game they can:
(for those invovled with Yu-gi-oh)
-Hire only people who speak Japanese.
-Hire experts in Marketing, and English grammar too.
-Hire those with good experience in Localisation (Its so much more complicated than just translating.)
-It's Shieusha's game, leave the "gaming" up to them (read: don't hire gamers, they are unnecessary at UDE's end, and Konami has no reason to listen to the gamers on UDE"s side)
-It's Shieusha's Game, leave the legal issues and responsibilities to them. (read: don't hire law school graduates)

BUt instead Kevin just posts on Pojo asking that we point the finger at Konami.
These are excellent suggestions, but they'll never get done. UDE is about to have their cash cow come in"” so they think"” with the World of Warcraft CCG. I've heard from sources that they believe that the huge WOW crowd will push the CCG into such amazing popularity because it doesn't compete with the MTG or Pokemon or YGO crowds, and it's a more mature audience. And I feel it will be a massive failure for exactly the same reasons. UDE isn't a game company no matter how hard they try. It's because they continue to hire gamers rather than businesspeople (and here we come back full circle to above).

Just a bit of a rhetorical question since I'm sure I know the answer already: Why do you need a Game Designer for a game that you are just translating from one language to another? Wouldn't that be like hiring a Director to dub in an English translation for a Japanese movie?

what has the god father ever do to you??

i dont know about WoW, seriously, i was never a fan of the pc game. i played it a few times, but still nope dont like it.

will it do good, who knows, i dont know considering the players love the online thing, i dont think they will get off their chair to jump into a card game when they can pumble on somebody over the net miles away from them.

Anything that gets those people off their computers for once would be a good thing. I just can't imagine it being any good as a card game though, I'm probably wrong.

so you preaty much dis me and the guys in the magic forum.

how sad xeno. trully sad.

well if they really wanted to get off their pc's they probably would have to start by going out side and getting a life. lol

I've been playing that wrong for so long....I actually convinced people where I play that it actually had no conditions....but the rulings tell all.......I better fix the wrongs I have committed on Sunday......

Yeah, I kind of think that too, besides if you all don't already know, the mature audience CCG category will also have a competitor in the rankings which you should not completely dismiss without a fair review.....Street Warriors

http://www.thestreetwars.com

I met these guys that created the game personally at Origins, then hung out with them at Gencon too. The game is pretty cool, and the characters are thugs n' playas....so wat up fool?

P.S. If you do buy anything direct from the streetwarriors website (if you are interested that is), do me a favor and use this link (I earn scrilla [cash money] for this, YEAH!!!!!)

http://www.thestreetwars.com/roadhouse007 (this doesn't seem to be running, but the main site is)

P.P.S. Noone critisize the bad punctuation and grammer in parts of this post.....they were intentional.

Yeah, fool, raise up!
