Here's A Stupid Question

The Last Warrior From Another Planet's effect says no one can normal or special summon any monsters, but can a monster be set? If so, could I use Book Of Taiyou or Stop Defense to place it face-up?

Its not a stupid question. You wouldnt believe how many people forget a "Set" is not a summon, although people tend to interchange them as if they did mean the same, for example...

"I summon one monster face-down, and end my turn!"

What is a monster that is summoned face-down? A "Set".

So, yes, you can still "Set" monsters face-down, but you may not set monsters that are Special Summoned face-down by an effect, like "The Shallow Grave".

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Stop Defense only flip your OPPONENT's monster face up- not your monster? So if the player sets a monster, then he would have to use Light of Intervention, Book of Taiyou or any other card that allows him to flip his OWN monster face-up. Stop Defense does not allow him to do that after the monster is set. Just an observation that I'm sure most of you already knew.
Like Masterwoo0 said, Light of Intervention doesn't flip any monsters face up if they're face down.

First sentence is a restriction on both players. Monsters can't be Set. The second sentence is what happens when you attempt to Set a monster. Set is merely a term that means the action a player takes to place a monster in face down defense position. Which is indicated by D.D. Trap Hole's rulings and Light of Intervention v.s. Book of Moon.

So we've comfirmed you can still set monsters. But what about a Fusion or Ritual summon. Can that still be done, or do both fall under the "special summon" option?

Anything outside of a Normal/Tribute Summon is a Special Summon. It's an all-inclusive term. Ritual and Fusion Summons are just different types of Special Summons.
