Eschew Obfuscation
I've been running a tournament at my local shop for a little while now, but this year the owner got ahold of the Hobby League box. I read the instructions, but they seem a little ambiguous, so i was hoping that y'all might could give a few pointers.
Like:

How do you divvy up the prizes?
It's "supposed" to last a month, so, when do you divvy them?
Format is "supposed" to be Round Robin, is that how y'all do it?
What is the charge (different from other tournaments)?
Do you include your regulars, or is it more for newbies?
Do you have seperate tournaments for Hobby and regular?
Any other important information I should know that I am too green to even know to ask?

Thanks in advance. I just want to do right by my players, you know?

well the way my local tournament does it is:

top 8 all get the promo card
not sure
tournaments r 3 rounds of round robin then cut to top 8 for single elimination
they charge $5 for the tournament
yes
no
they also do a prize for the best 13 and under players

hope this helps:)

Thanks, Josh. Am I correct in assuming that they have a seperate tournament for under 13? If not, how do they determine points for just them? Oh wait, there is something about points for top wins, first place is three, second is one.....nope, sorry, that is for determining who is the grand winner for the month that gets the mat/shirt whatever. Man, this is a tad confusing. It shouldn't be so complicated. I just want to do it "right", but it may be that there is no real "right" way of doing it.

Anybody else have some insights/ suggestions?

nope its just one big tournament and all they do to find the highest ranked 13 and under is look at the over all standing at the end of the tournament unless one of the 13 and under kids makes it to top 8 then u know it'll be that kid and if there is 2 that r in the same place on the bracket (like 3rd and 4th) most of the time they let them play for the prize

Yes! Yes! There weree two T-shirts in the box, one XL and one S, that makes great sense! Save a T for the top >13 player. Excellent. Thanks.

In my area they used to hold the Big Man/Small Man contests for the T-shirts. The biggest guy got the XL and the smallest guy got the S. It was pretty funny, since the big guys would all try to stick out their stomachs trying to look like they were bigger then everybody else.
