Hiya Barb. Welcome to the city. I hope you enjoy your stay and if you have any questions or need any help at all dont hesitate to ask.

Hey Dark Star!!!

I'm glad they got things cleared up on the registration. Welcome to the city!!!

...and now for my obligatory questions 8^D

What's your favorite card?
What deck are you currently running?

My favorite card, for the simple reason I adore the art on it and have never found one I like better (though some come close) is Soul Release. I don't always run it in a deck; I don't know that I have a card I always run as such, but I have a fondness for field cards, trap cards and for Fairy Meteor Crush. I also like Trap Jammer, Magic Jammer and related types.

I don't like cards that only work with one or two other cards in my deck, they always feel too limiting. I really disliked the "must be activated as chain link ___ or higher" that were introduced a few booster packs ago, also.

Quite honestly the best deck I have is in my Nightmare Troubadour game -- I'd like to build it in real life but it has some difficult and/or expensive to get stuff and probably won't ever quite happen in that form. But it is built around being all dark monsters as opposed to being around monster types and there are some newer cards that would work in it that I didn't have in NT so I am playing around with trying to build a form of it. It really needs a Dark Magician Girl... (drat, drat, drat...)

I am also working on building a remove from play deck. I actually started this before the new structure deck that uses this concept came out -- about a year ago, I think, when I got a Gren Maju Da Eiza by accident in a random booster pack. This deck needs work -- you die before you get enough things in the graveyard to take things out and get anywhere. I need a way to stall longer... However the new structure deck actually included some stuff I could use and my son just traded a bunch of Pokemon cards to a kid who's eight or so who had bought the deck and then didn't want it (because he's trying to collect elemental heros and thought the deck had them) so that I didn't have to buy a deck and take it apart to get stuff like Kycoo. My problem now is I have a huge (HUGE!!) deck that really needs to get a little smaller...

I also have a Dragon based deck that isn't too bad. At least my kid doesn't beat me all the time...

Welcome Dark Star.

I always offer a helping hand to anyone who happens to run or wants to run a Remove From Play deck. I think I could really help you build/edit your deck, especially if you want to run Gren Maju Da Eiza. It happens to be my specialty type and my signature monster.

If you ever need help, feel free to PM me and I'll message you back, or rate your deck after you post it. I have several decks posted on the site allready if you are interested (Lightsworn/Macro, Dark/Fiend RFP), I've also built a Megarock Dragon Deck, a White Horn Dragon Deck, a Dino RFP, Prometheus/Doomsday Horror (Currently working on), and I think you get the idea. LOL!

Hey, it happens... Computers sometimes, like cats, have a mind of their own...

Ack!, Dimensionruler, you mean I have to list the whole thing? ACK!!! Typing!

Seriously, ummm...., it's currently got a lot (!) of cards which would take a while, even using Deck Studio, but I may take you up on that offer after I get a chance to catch up on a few other things in my life. (Like a major sewing project I'm doing for someone and a fanfiction I'm writing for someone else and need to catch up a little on, and a computer backup I HAVE to do due to "issues" and some card-weaving I'm in the middle of, and ... well, uh, you get the drift....) Because right now I think this deck is sitting at over eighty cards and I haven't had a chance to play it against anyone since I got the new stuff, but the old version had possiblities, but it was "slow" for lack of a better word. It needed stuff to go into the graveyard in order to have it there to remove. And it needed to hold on long enough to let that happen. It was slowly getting tweaked, but had a long way to go. But it is such a fun concept, isn't it?

I'll be the first to admit I have no head for strategy. But I like Yugioh. So where do I post it when I get it listed?

I forgot to mention earlier that I also have a deck that has lots of fairies and light monsters in it -- it's so-so: could be worse, could be better...

You can post it in the Advance Format Decks or Traditional Format Decks (depending on which it is) sections in the Borough of Yu-Gi-Oh! when you get the chance.

Let me be the first to tell you that adding more cards to a deck is just going to make it slower. If you want a deck to speed up you have to cut it down as small as possible. After its as small as you can get it (Hopefully 40 - 42) then you can think about what might be slowing the deck down (meaning being Dead Draws) and substitute cards in and out till you find something that will work even better.

The most important thing to remember is to keep trying. Many people will build and play a deck a few times, lose most of those duels, and then drop the deck all together for something different. You will never win with that strategy. Stay consistent with a deck and keep working on it, fixing it, and finding all the possible ways of using the deck. The more you use the deck, the more often you will win because you are better practiced with that deck. It really is the old homage of "The Heart of the Cards".

Well, at the moment it is totally unwieldy (you don't want to know...) but before adding the new cards, and taking some others out, it is hard to explain if it was too slow, or too fast -- because you could look at it either way. The problem was it needed to stall longer so more stuff went into the graveyard before starting to take it out -- because if nothing is in the graveyard, then there is nothing there to take out, and some of the cards' attacks depended on what was removed. So on the one hand you could say it was too slow -- you lost all your life points before you could get your act together. But on the other hand you could say it was too fast. Some of your cards came out before you were ready for them to. Weird deck... But such a fun concept....

And right now I can't find the section to post it in -- what am I overlooking? (Or is it just that it is 1 a.m. and I'm brain dead and missing the obvious?)

Thats the link to the casual play deck forum. That seems like a good place to put it until its been made truly playable. I assume by what you said that you have cards like say Prometheus, King of the Shadows. Thats one thng ya deffo dont need. Just get things like D.D monsters in there and not much else except some monarchs or banishers and maybe a gren maju or two.

Dark Star I completely understand the problem you are having. I often had the same problems when I first started out with this style of play, but it can be worked around and it can be fixed. Like most things in life, the trick is to walk the middle ground.

I will tell you that the trick to getting cards in the graveyard isn't the matter of making the deck BIGGER but building the deck around discarding cards and sending cards to the graveyard. My current Dark/Fiend RFP build has a "Factory" concept attached to it. I run Giant Germs, Peten the Dark Clowns, and Kuribohs which are all easy to get into the Graveyard (Or directly removed from play in the case of Peten). Then I also run Snipe Hunter which is a great way to discard unwanted cards to the Graveyard. You can see the entire deck here: http://www.cogonline.net/forums/showthread.php?p=368778#post368778

EmeraldDragon Prometheus is a great card to use, he is amazing for removing mass amounts of monsters. There are far better RFP decks then the very simple Macro/Monarch builds you just suggested. I don't even use most of the DD Monsters.

Thing is though dimmy ya need a starting point. The standard macro monarch while not being a super uber winny deck it is such a starting point.

True, it can be a starting point. My problem with the build is its not much of a RFP deck, its just another strategy for summoning and abusing Monarchs. I started by building decks around Skull Lair and Gren Maju Da Eiza where the strategy is to remove.

Oh, gee, guys, I didn't mean to start a fight...

Actually at the moment it doesn't have a Prometheus, for the simple reason I've never seen one. (Nooooo.. don't tell me there's another card I could put into it.......!)

What it does have, and what (at least some of) are probably staying in it, is a couple of Kycoos, three Gren Majus, three Soul Releases, a handful of various DD this and thats, two Helios the Primordial Suns, a Helios Duo Megistus, a Helios Trice Megistus, two Golden Homunculuses (Homunculii?), a couple Banishers of the Light and of the Radiance, and some various Dimension this and that magic/trap cards including a Return from a Different Dimension and Dimension Fusion (I actually pulled that one from a pack!). And then a whole bunch of stuff trying to keep it on the field long enough to actually use some of this like Scapegoat and Stray Lambs.

Maybe I'll go through, strip out what doesn't actually fit the remove from play / discard to the graveyard plan (there's some stuff like Magic Jammer there strictly to get stuff into the graveyard since it's hard to remove anything from an empty graveyard....) and then see what's left. Then I can post a pool of cards to work with, at least, even if it isn't exactly a deck yet...

Wow -- months and months ago I posted about this...

The deck is still huge and unwieldy (how huge and unwieldy I am NOT admitting here because I am not embarassing myself in public!) but it is slowly getting better. Now things are somewhat getting into the graveyard so they can be removed, due to adding some "discard a card to do 'X' " type cards in place of some other stuff. The new problem is getting things into the hand so I can discard them -- you can't discard something if you're not holding anything to begin with. **sigh**

Oh, well, the concept is still fun, even if the deck still loses.

One of these days, when I get something I'm not too ashamed to admit to, I might get brave enough to post it.

Yeah, I started out my original builds the same way. With a crap load of "discard a card to the graveyard" and yes it causes you to top deck pretty fast. I'd try and move away from that strategy because these types of decks often require combos and large hands. I currently use things like Giant Germ, Peten the Dark Clown, Kuriboh, maybe even Mystic Tomatos. They fill the graveyard, thin the deck, and defend me all at the same time. I'm telling you, if you post your deck I can probably help it out alot.

Okay, way, way back, I wrote this -- various water under the bridge and all that...

Still trying to do something with the remove from play deck, but right now it more resembles a slush pile of cards. I need to sort it out by type, pull out what I have that possibly makes sense in it from my extra cards, and then put the whole thing into some sort of semblance of order and list it here in the -- well, where? Deck check? --is that it?

In the meantime I have a light deck that more or less works, a dark deck that works in theory, but not so much in practice, and a Fairy deck that fails miserably against my kid (as in 'he mops the floor with me'), but oddly seems to play the best in our local league. I always figured it for my worst deck, so it may have more to do with the type/style of what everyone else is using and that it's just weird in contrast, than that it is any good in and of itself. I also have a dragon deck that is maybe okay -- I haven't played it enough to really tell yet.

One of these days I'll get them all listed and posted....if I ever catch up on everything else in my life. *sigh*
