IOC-036 Chaos End

As I mentioned in yesterday's card review. The cards you see reviewed here aren't always going to be the most commonly played cards you'll see in tournaments. While we hope to help players understand those cards, we also hope to introduce new possibilities to players to expand their options.

Today's card, Chaos End, is obviously one of those spell cards you're not likely to see in tournament play"¦"¦yet. If you've been playing this game for a few years you've learned though. When many cards are introduced in a new set you may very well pass them over quickly figuring their playability is poor at best. You've no doubt noticed though, the increasing support for removed from play area cards.

In the last couple of days we've looked at Bazoo the Soul-Eater and Chaosrider Gustaph. With monsters like these dumping your expended monsters and spell cards into your removed from play area it wouldn't take long to build up the 7 cards required to put Chaos End to work for you.

When you combine the power of Chaosrider Gustaph, Bazoo the Soul-Eater, and Chaos End with the power of cards such as Return from the Different Dimension or Dimension Fusion you've created a highly possible OTK combo.

What are the tricks of using Chaos End? None really, you'd use it the same way and just as you'd use Dark Hole. The big difference here is that Dark Hole is on the current ban list. Chaos End isn't even semi-restricted!

A great card that one day people will see has great benefits for the game of Duel Monsters (don't like calling it Yu-Gi-Oh). There is plenty of remove from game type effects meaning that this card has true potential when used in the right deck. Seeing it in tournament play will certainly be fresh and new and more often than not challenging. With the amount of RFG it's not too hard to get the amount of cards out of the game to use the effect of Chaos End. You can even use it with Card of Sanctity (from The Lost Millenium) if you have enough cards on the field to RFG. It would certainly be interesting to see if anyone can create a deck using this card. I tried once creating what I called a proper Chaos deck, none of these hybrid Chaos Warrior/Zombie, etc etc, but a proper deck focussed on the RFG effect. Sadly it didn't work out too well, but it had potential.

I know one thing, i myself in error forget what cards can do and bypass them thinking that won't work when it can, in the right deck. Read this cards effect again and again, something will eventually click when you look at another card.

A card that can help you to remove monster cards in your graveyard ;

Card # LON-EN082
Card Name Skull Lair
Card Type Trap
Is Counter No
Is Continuous Yes

Card Text
Remove from play any number of Monster Cards in your Graveyard to destroy 1 face-up monster on the field whose Level is equal to the number of the cards you removed from play.

Let's not forget the original, and still champion of remove from play.... Banisher of the Light.

PS - The artwork on that card is still among my all-time favorites. "Stay out of the graveyard. Go directly out of play."

I distinctly remember making a netdeck about this idea, but with an added edge:

XYZ-Dragon Cannon and all of its little friends.

Quite simply, it had loads of RFG elements in it designed to make good use of all of those nice RFG effects, Chaos End being one of them. However, the crux of the deck was to have X-Head Cannon, Y-Dragon Head and Z-Metal Tank all removed from play and then to throw down Dimension Fusion and cause some hell when I fuse them all into the most awesome level 8 monster about. As was said earlier, just before using Dimension Fusion, throwing down a Chaos End was always preferable.
