lets say my opponent attacks my Kycoo with Berserk Gorilla, can i use Covering Fire and select Injection Fairy Lily and use her effect in crease her attack by 3000, then Kycoo gets a boost of 3400?

At the moment I don't see anything wrong with this though you would have to chain Lily to Covering Fire, otherwise covering fire would resolve first giving only 400 ATK boost.

Spot's Knight

But can you activate Lily's effect if she's not actually the monster actively involved in the battle? I'm thinking it wouldn't work, although the wording on IFL is a little ambiguous as it just states "during the damage step", I'd think that the damage step in question would have to be one in which IFL is actually a combatant.

I'm perfectly willing to be wrong here, but I'd say that you couldn't use IFL's powerup effect with the effect from Covering Fire because IFL is not actually involved in the battle, her stats are just being counted for the effect of another card.

You can only boost IFL during the Damage Step when she is attacked or attacking. How can you use her effect when another monster is attacked and IFL is not the original target???

Wouldnt "Shift" be more appropriate?

against a straight berserk gorilla why would you need to boost? Her original atk will give Kycoo the edge to send that monkey back to the zoo.

Doesnt this statement indicate that "she" is the target of battle:

"You can activate this card's effect during both players' Damage Steps, at damage calculation. You can activate it only once per Damage Step, but if "Injection Fairy Lily" is involved in multiple battles in the same turn, you can activate it once during each battle."

Non sequitis.

If a prussian is a bird, than a collie is a dog.

The collie can still be a dog without the prussian being a bird.

If a monster is special summoned in the battle phase (outside of the damage step) you may activate Bottomless Trap Hole.

Does that mean that BTH can only be activated in the battle phase and not the main phase or anywhere else? No it doesn't. "IFs" only work one way.

resurrecting an ancient thread

I know this thread is ancient but I finally got an answer from Curtis Schultz on the question.

INjection Fairy Lily must be involved in the attack.

X-LYRIS-Recency:

Does Injection Fairy Lily have to be the monster currently involved in =
battle in order to activate her effect?

The question arises from the following situation:

"lets say my opponent attacks my Kycoo with Berserk Gorilla, can i use =
Covering Fire and select Injection Fairy Lily and use her effect in =
crease her attack by 3000, then Kycoo gets a boost of 3400?"

I said that IFL must be the monster doing battle in order to use her =
effect. However, the text on the card is a bit ambiguous and only =
specifies that it has to be activated in the damage step, not that she =
had to be the monster involved. Just seeking clarification on that =
point.

Thanks!

Within the context of the question, he's saying that IFL has to actually be involved in the battle to use her boosting effect. Using Covering Fire doesn't involve her in the battle, it just adds her stats to the other monster. So the move of flipping Covering Fire, selecting IFL and then using IFL's boosted ATK to add to the ATK of the other monster would not be a legal move.

I'll admit, Curtis could have worded it a little better, but essentially, IFL has to actively be involved in battle to use her effect.

The answer is in the 1st line of the quote.

"INjection Fairy Lily must be involved in the attack.

This is usually what I get from him (format wise) when the question won't be posted to the list.

The Moderator is 'usually' Curtis.

no you may not, IFL isnt the monster in battle, and since it isnt the monster in battle why would you pump her up during a damage step that is not existant for her but another monster.

either way Covering Fire will make your Kycoo a 2200 atker so there is no need.
