Izanagi´s effect

Mexican Diablillo!!
Good day,people...here´s my question:

Izanagi´s effect is optional or not?..im a bit confused by the wording "don not have to have",making me believe it is optional to return or not a spirit monster.

thanks in advance with an answer on this matter!!!

Izanagi
Effect Monster (Fairy / WIND / 6 Stars / ATK 2200 / DEF 1000)
You can Special Summon this card from your hand by removing from play 1 Spirit monster from your hand. Spirit monsters you control do not have to have their effects that return them to the hand activated.

You're talking about the second effect. What it means is that you can choose to use your Spirit Monsters' effects to return them to your hand or not.

Example. I control two Spirit Monsters (Inaba White Rabbit and Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi), as well as Izanagi. It comes to my End Phase, which is when both Spirit Monsters would return to my hand. I'd like Inaba White Rabbit to return, because it's weak, but I'd want to keep Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi on the field because it took a lot of trouble to get it out and it's powerful. Izanagi allows me to ignore the returning effect of Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi but still use the effect of Inaba White Rabbit, and my goals are achieved.

Izanagi is better than Spiritual Energy Settle Machine, because you can pick and choose which Spirit Monsters to keep on the field (instead of forcing them all to stay) and you don't have to pay the upkeep cost of discarding a card for it. On the other hand, Izanagi is a monster, so it's more vulnerable to being destroyed (but still, it's tougher than a Cyber Dragon if you do the sensible thing and keep it in Attack Position).

Mirror of Yata is another alternative, but it's an Equip Spell so it only affects one monster (and once it's equipped it's not optional). Still, it prevents a destruction by battle as well.

And Izanagi's effect is continuous. While it is Face-up on the field, the Spirit Monster does not even Activate to return, unless you decide to allow it. It should also be on an Activation by Activation basis as well. Meaning that you can decide to allow the effect of Asura Priest to Activate to return to your hand so that it can be negated once by Light and Darkness Dragon, then again and again until he connot negate anymore, then decide not to allow it to activate again and, so keep Adura Priest on the Field.

Thanks for the response,ppl...but,again, i went and searched mirror of yata and found this:

Equip only to a Spirit monster. The equipped monster does not have to have its effect that returns it to the hand activated. If it would be destroyed by battle, destroy this card instead.

the underlined text its the same as izanagi´s second effect...but im reading that it´s not optional...is it because it´s an equip spell?

thanks again for the info!!!

Mirror of Yata is the same as Izanagi, in that it makes it so that you, the controller of the Spirit Monster have the option (even if you do not control the Equip card) to activate its (the Spirit Monster's) return effect or not. They (Izanagi and Mirror of Yata) continually make the effect of the Spirit Monster like an optional effect so that you decide during the End Phase whether you wish to allow it (the Spirit Monster's effect) to trigger or not. Like Instant Neo-Space (or Telekinetic Charging Cell and whether or not you want to pay Life Points).

Make better sense?

jeje...with this kind of answers, i could even learn medicine in half the time,lol...great answers, you guys!!!

and, darklogician, i undestood the effect of both cards (izanagi and mirror) since the first answer, the only doubt that i had after the initial response was reading that the mirror was not optional...but believe me, my initial doubt was cleared since both you and maruno kindly gave me your answers...thanks again for making this little doubt go away!!!

I am at your service.

I often find that too simple an answer can cause confusion, but over-addressing it can seem condesending. I hope that this was not the case. I only wish to be precise. Thank you for your graciousness.

Eschew obfuscation!

Conque haciendo deck de espiritus, eh?

Bien por ti, yo tengo uno y la verdad es que si estan chidos los espiritus. sobre todo cuando: "baja Susa soldier. Se lo cambio por su five headed dragon compa! (activo creature swap)"

Or use Spirit's Invitation, Yunkel.

Spirit's Invitation
Continuous Trap
Each time your Spirit monster returns to your hand, select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field and return it to its owner's hand. Pay 500 Life Points during each of your Standby Phases. If you do not, destroy this card.
