Jinzo question

There was a thread about funny moments in YGO on Pojo and as I read it, I stumbled upon a post, where player described, that he activated Torrential Tribute on other player summon. That player chained Call of the Haunted to revive Jinzo. Then poster chained MST, but didn't destroy Call of the Haunted, but Torrential Tribute.

So, the chain looked like this:

0. Summon of monster
1. Torrential Tribute
2. Call of the Haunted (targeting Jinzo)
3. MST (targeting Torrential Tribute)

So when Jinzo apeared on the field, Torrential Tribute was already in the graveyard (destroyed by MST). The question is: Was Jinzo able to negate Torrential Tribute or not?

I would say that he wasn't, because TT was already in the graveyard and Jinzo has no power over graveyard ...

"Jinzo" will still negate "Torrential Tribute", since the effect of "Torrential Tribute" remains on the field.

You're thinking of "Jinzo" like "Skill Drain". They work differently.

Jinzo:
As long as this card remains face-up on the field, Trap Cards cannot be activated. The effects of all face-up Trap Cards are negated.

Skill Drain:
Pay 1000 Life Points. As long as this card remains on the field, the effects of all face-up Effect Monsters on the field are negated.

-------------------
I'm not quite sure about the difference. These text look same to me, except that part where Skill Drain specifies "on the field". And Jinzo's text specifies, that it will negate effects of face-up Trap Card, but Torrential Tribute is no longer on the field.

If the text was "The effects of Trap Cards are negated", then I would agree with you. But this seems strange ...

I'm just going to overlook the fact that he could have simply targeted Call of the Haunted and got exactly the same results with no argument. -_-()

I am fairly certain that this was answered on the Judges' List, and the answer was that "Jinzo" still negates the effect.
Jinzo:
As long as this card remains face-up on the field, Trap Cards cannot be activated. The effects of all face-up Trap Cards are negated.

Skill Drain:
Pay 1000 Life Points. As long as this card remains on the field, the effects of all face-up Effect Monsters on the field are negated.
If I'm reading this right, the Japanese wording is slightly different. Loosely translated, it reads:
Jinzo's OCG text said:
If this card is face-up on the field, Trap Cards cannot be activated, and the effect of a Trap Card on the field is negated
Skill Drain's OCG Text said:
Pay 1000 LP. While this card is face-up on the field, Effect Monsters that are face-up on the field have their effects negated.
Jinzo negates the effect, as in the «effect of a Trap Card» on the field (not the effect of «a Trap Card on the field»). It doesn't matter what happens to the card, since the effect is still on the field.

"Skill Drain" affects the monster. As long as the monster is on the field, "Skill Drain" affects it. "Destiny Hero - Plasma" is worded the same way.

"Divine Fowl King Alector" has been ruled to work the same way as "Jinzo" - it negates field effects, not effects of cards on the field. It is worded...well, the way the Wikia says: the effects are negated, not the card.

how about if Jinzo is face down and i activate acid trap hole targeting the face down Jinzo?..would he nagate it when he's turned face up to check the def.?

That one is covered in Jinzo and Acid Trap Hole's respective rulings:

[info2]If a face-down "Jinzo" is flipped by "Acid Trap Hole", "Jinzo's" effect is not applied if it is destroyed by "Acid Trap Hole".[/info2]

[info2]A face-down "Jinzo" will be destroyed by this card.[/info2]

I'm with Dasher, the effects of Jinzo and Skill Drain look exactly the same, in respect to their targeted mechanics, and seem to work the exact same way as well.

Jinzo would negate Torrential Tribute, Mystical Space Typhoon doesn't negate it just destroys the trap, so the effect of Torrential would still be active until the end of the chain. The player should of just MSTed the Call of the Haunted.

I know this topic was 'put to rest' a few days ago, but I still feel the need to clarify a few things.

1. "Skill Drain" and "Jinzo" do not work the same. Please do not compare the two with each other.

2. "Jinzo" only cares about the effect of the card in question. He does not care about the physical location of the card after the effect has been activated.

3. "Skill Drain" only cares about the physical card location/orientation (face-up). It does not care about the effect. (This is why "Exiled Force" is not negated.)

4. Effects do not move around with the cards. If an effect is activated on the field, and that card is removed from the field, that card effect still resolves on the field ("Exiled Force"). If an effect is activated from the hand, and that card is removed from the hand, that card effect still resolves from the hand ("D.D. Crow"). If an effect is activated in the Graveyard, and that card is removed from the Graveyard, that card effect still resolves in the Graveyard ("D-Hero Malicious").
