So what exactly will activate "The Dark World Monsters" effect other than your opponent making you discard them. Could you please give a list of cards that you can activate that will allow you to use their effects, please?

Thank you very much, Brian

Answer:

Here's a few examples to help give everyone an idea of what can make their effects activate.

Remember that these are examples and NOT the entire list.

It is important to remember that discarding a card when your RESOLVE the effect isn't a cost, because costs are paid at activation.

Also keep in mind that these apply to "Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World", "Broww, Huntsman of Dark World", "Sillva, Warlord of Dark World" and "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World".

"Dark World Lightning": You will notice in the text that the last thing you do is discard a card from your hand. This card is discarded as part of the card's effect, not as a cost, so if you discard a [Dark World] monster it will activate that monster's effect.

"Morphing Jar": The cards you discard with "Morphing Jar's" effect are not discarded as a cost. They are discard when "Morphing Jar's" effect resolves, thus they are discarded as part of the effect.

"Dragged Down to the Grave": When do you discard? When the effect resolves. So would the [Dark World] monster be discarded as part of the effect? Most assuredly.

"Brron, Mad King of Dark World": The discard is performed during the resolution of its effect, assuming you actually want to discard a card with its effect. Thus it will activate their effects.

Examples of what doesn't work:

"The Creator": From the FAQ: "Sending 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard is not a cost to activate the effect of "The Creator"." Great that the card being sent to the Graveyard is part of the effect, but since it is NOT discarded it won't activate a [Dark World] monster's effect.

So why don't "Last Turn" and Chaos Emperor Dragon work? Read the cards. It doesn't say "discard" anywhere in their text.

Can we get an update? I mean, I believe there are other cards that work also, but are being overlooked mainly because they don't necessarily work
on their own.
I.e.: Royal Tribute when combined, naturally, with Necrovalley.

The purpose of the original question and answer was to provide a framework with what will and won't work. It was never intended on being an exhaustive list of cards that can activate Dark World Effects. Basically if there is a card discard necessary because of the effect of a card, then it will. Otherwise, it won't.

Okay. I get it.
Then why not just look up discard in the Netrep.Net search engine?
This will provided all cards that discard and will tell you which ones
are a cost or not. It will say something like:
Discarding a card is a cost to activate/play this particular card.
Those are the ones you ignore. It's not always accurate, but
should provide some answers.

You can't really look up something, when you don't know what to look for. He wanted to know what kind of effects triggered Dark World to begin with. How's he going to know to search for cards that have a cost, when he doesn't yet know that costs don't trigger them?
