does anyone know if Karma Cut can be used in reply to an attack???

Yes and no.

If a monster is tributed because of your opponent's Share the Pain, then you CAN activate his effect

If a monster if tribute for a card like Cannon Soldier or for a tributed summon, then you can't activate it because it misses the timing.

Well, it was 1 of my favorites in the beginning

And it's the only card I can think of that has tributing a monster as the last part of an effect.
