I thought to myself, This time of year is getting stressful the Xmas rush is building and work is becomming harder. So I thought Instead off getting tired and moan Id talk about.

I work at a Garden Center Called Marlow's D.I.Y and Garden Center..

I did Part time for about 2 Years then this summer just gone I was employed full time. Yeah im that good. I normally did Till work when I was part time. Now its full time I see how the whole buisness works. Because we are the only Marlows everyone is close its like a family we work as a big team which is great when we finish all our tasks. Though thee past two months have been very stressful I knwo my job is now to help customers but they could have some manners.

Being on the tills for 2 years was okay not that stressful all you have to deal with is the customers complaining to you and blaimg you for eveything when being part time you have no idea of the situation. It does take its toll on. I think the main reason im find it hard is because its my first year full time. I have poaperwork sometimes alot of stock to put out I do mean alot they stock normally comes on pallets and on a busy they I can do upto 6. therewas time I did 9 I was exhausted that day. I still also do till work that and taking on extra hours in December to get extra pay it is all worth it but it does get tiring.

Sorry y rant but if Anyone else wan't to talk about there work and how they are finding feel free to post and reply. Tahnks..

Ooh thats a load of.

I'm very blessed at work....well, quite honestly I'm vey blessed in life, sometimes more than I likely deserve!

I design and engineer high end custom architectural woodwork....coffered ceilings, bars, spiral staircases, entertainment units, etc.

The owner here treats me almost like family, takes care of me well...as well as my own family with medical and dental insurance, cell phone, company truck, etc.

I've worked in the industry for 23 years, at this location for 13. While that would normally be boring this job keeps interesting because everything we do is custom and it varies widely the items, style, and design. While it can certainly be stressful to put out product on a timeline expected of mail-order when you have to design and build everything from scratch, it's very satisfying to know there are only a few in the state who can accomplish the result we as a company do.

The owner and I are quite different, he's pretty much a shoot from the hip and take care of things as they come along kind of guy....while I'm a detail oriented planner. Luckily we can both appreciate the need and special talents of each other and assign the tasks at hand to who would be best for that paticular job. A great many hats need to be worn around here....which also keeps it interesting.

The way I've always looked at it, if my job was easy anyone could do it. That's what I'm paid for, to do a job that takes a great deal of focus, experience, ability, problem solving skills. Oddly enough I'm thankful for the problems, solving them just makes me that much more valuable!

I can't and won't rant about being under paid, mistreated, or under appreciated. I've found a place of work and an employer who keeps those things to a minimum.

I'm working retail full time and taking 15 credits. Finals are sneaking up and the work load is building. Yeah, I know a little about stress lol.

But I get paid well, and the work isn't hard; just stressufl this time of year. Otherwise, it's a great place to work. I often get my readings for school done there, and the pay is above average. Plus they are flexible with my school schedule.

What is Stress.. Lol! Wish I could ask that. I get paid very well for my Job or I wouldn't do it I think it helps when you feel part of the team. I have always been more of a team person then work on my own. I feel better about myself when I can help soemone.

hehe, I'm glad working from home is keeping you stress free krazykidpsx, I couldn't quite manage things.

Me, I'm a Software Engineer over at UNLV out here in Vegas (great...now people might try to hunt me down 8^D). I build primarily web based applicaions to serve the campus at large, but also do scripting and behind the scenes applications to make things flow.

While this may sound dry to most people, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my job! I've been a computer geek from the get go and web apps are a wonderful blend between form and function. You need to make the technical stuff happen, but you also need to make the interface appealing and easy to use.

Given this is my first job out in the "public sector", I've learned a lot about the politics of things and I still try to keep out it of it. I think that's what keeps me lovin' what I do here and will always love programming.

I'm doubly blessed in that my wife works at the bookstore across campus. We're able to do lunch together almost every day and get to carpool to and from work. She's the textbook supervisor over there and she deals with a lot of irate, and frankly stupid at times, customers, so I pass my empathy on to you Fuzzman. I get plenty of stories and can only imagine that its rough for you too.

Yeah, The sad thing is with out any customers we wouldn't get apid so we have to be nice to them even if they do treat you like dirt. Though sometimes during the day you get some brillaint questions. My favourite "Do you work here?" I have once replied no I just like wearing the shirt luckily they took it in good humor. I prefer looking after the store and topping up stock over customer enquiries.

It sounds funny but I am a disabled veteran who is not currently allowed to work per my doctors. It drives me more batty not working than want to kick co-workers butts when I could work. I am not a violent guy. For year I ran ambulance services. I really enjoyed doing that and being able to take care of my crews during the holidays. I can't work as a paramedic anymore do to unforeseen circumstances but not being allowed to do anything is crazy. I try to find places to volunteer but not many out there that could use my abilities. I'm not trying to whine, it does allow me to raise my children differently than how I was raised (and that is a positive thing).

15, and You get it at school. or should be allowed to get it at school, atleast that is how LAUSD does it.

ah..thanks krazy....whats a good part time job to get? college is coming up soon and i can use the cash...

In england you only need a work perit if youe 15 and under but Its hard to get a job. I was 17 when i started marlows.. Ill be 20 this year. Part time jobs are okay but full time is where the money is.

Inuyasha_Riku,

Depending on how much money you're looking to pull in. Check on campus first. There are often a lot of jobs available that don't require much effort and pay decent. A friend of mine in college worked over in the Engineering library. He was free to work on his homework when things weren't busy and there weren't books to shelf. I dont' know how much he made, but it kept him going during the school year until the winter or summer breaks where he'd score a quick job.

I was lucky enough to nail a telecommuting style job after a summer internship that allowed me to work from my dorm on a flexible schedule. While I know its harder to accomplish nowadays, I'd recommend you put more emphasis on the studies than the work as much as possible. A solid grasp on your studies will help you down the road more than having that XBox 360 in your dorm room 8^D

I'm a stay at home dad by choice...mostly. I can't say miss work though. Though in my case, I didn't have a skill that kept me in an enjoyable proffesion. I'd been working retail forever and a day. Let me tell you straight up, the intellegent people DO NOT work in retail. Which doesn't say much about me, does it. I can't underdtand how a person can work for Kmart all through high school, go away to college for three years and come back and start working the same job they had in high school for ... well...they're still there!!

I haven't done much better in the career department, but then again I wasn't looking for what every one was going after. The emphasis placed on success in this world leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I see success more about how well you do with your family and in whatever situation you happen to be in. Not how much you net each year. I know plenty of peopl who may be successes in the financial department, but thier absolute failures in life. I don't want to be one of them. I rather be poor and happy. :D I succeed more when I find my own way.

Dec 25, XMAS DAY. See my month is pretty tight work wise, that and I get to dress up as a snowman!!!

With me it's that I booked the time off. Since June 04 I took 5 days off last Xmas, 1 day in April, 2 in July, then that's it, no sick days either. Been in every other week day (bar public holidays, mostly- was stuck here on Good Friday:( ) and the odd weekend too.:( :( :(
Standard 8:30-5:30 job, there was one week a couple of months back where I was working 'til 1-3a.m. though and on the Thursday I had to work 'til 4pm the following day (couldn't shave gah!), management and their deadlines they give you at the last minute. (Very much Dilbert management here)
I think I've earned the time off.:king:
