Level 7+ Monsters from the graveyard

Card Phantom

Ok,

I'm am almost 99% positive that there was a time when Monster Reborn, The Shallow Grave etc.. could not be used on a "High-Level" monster (of level 7 or more unless they were properly tribute summoned before entering the graveyard).

When did it change?

Or, am I completely smoking crack and such a rule never existed...?!?!?

Signed,

Confused

Of course using a Reborn type card on a monster Level 1 or Greater depends on the type of monster you are summoning.

Black Luster Soldier can be reborn as long as he was Special Summoned correctly the first time.

Berserk Dragon cannot be reborn since he can only be summoned by A Deal with Dark Ruler.

I understand the "Special Summons" condition on ONLY vs EXCEPT etc...

My question was about the "higher-level" monsters that required two tributes like BEWD -- I swear that at one time you could not user Monster Reborn on BEWD if you had discarded it to the grave for an effect and not properly tribute summoned.

There are multiple rulings since Invasion of Chaos that contradict this, which make me think that the "higher-level" ruling was changed at some point, again, the need to know is purely for my own sanity and, well, a little trivia debate I have going with a friend about how the game has changed....

There was never a ruling that I know of that prevented you from reborning a Level 7 and above. The rule that established that you had to tribute 2 monsters on the field to summon a LV7+ monster from "your hand" may be what you are referring to.

But as far as I know, that never affected monsters discarded to the Graveyard, unless they were Ritual.

I think the rule you are thinking of never existed.
Unless special conditions (ritual, fusion, chaos, sphinx, ...), you were and are still able to since the beginning of the game to special summon a BEWD, Dark Magician or else just putting it in the graveyard from your hand or deck for any reason (opponent's effect, yours, too many cards at the end of your turn) and then summoning it thanks to Monster Reborn, Premature Burial or Call of the Haunted.
Perhaps that rule was one "created" by you or one of your friend when you've played YGO for the first time ? :p

Even in YGO Anime, Yugi was able to special summond "Dark Magician" from his Graveyard after discarding him when he used "Graceful Charity". This was the Episode on Waking the Dragon when Yugi was dueling the first Doom member who used "Obelisk" agains Yugi.

lol, was that the episode after Joey and that 1 guy was dueling when they had those armors equipped?

The Red-Eyes Dark Knights armor and that other armor the other guy with the autralian accent? lol man i missed alot of epispdes lastely...

The episode I was talking about was way..way older that that eposode. It was one of the first 5 eposodes when "Waking the Dragon" was first aired. But the episode you are talking about is VERY funny. It's like I'm watching Power Rangers in catroon version :)

lol, btw. since the show is now airing more realistic effects, are the effects of the that australian accent dude with that armor of his, like the arm effect real?

man, im sorry i forgot what his suit was called. lol hopefully you know what i am talking about.

Nevermind.. now I remember....

It was Soul Exchange that I was thinking about that changed...

you used to be able to use it for monsters that required two tributes then it changed to only being able to use for single tribute monsters.

Disregard this entire thread... infact, feel free to just delete the entire thing.. :D

Haha, speaking of "Soul Exchange"'s rulings, you actually can Tribute Summon a Level 7+ monster from your hand with it, as long as you Tribute one of your own monsters, the other Tribute monster can be your opponent's monster that you selected for "Soul Exchange"'s effect.
