LOD-EN004 Possessed Dark Soul

Every once in a while you look through a new set and somehow completely overlook a fantastic and potentially devastating card. Back when Legacy of Darkness came out we were drooling over Warriors! Rightly so, Legacy of Darkness was a truly awesome set giving us a new deck type with plenty of support. In all the hype of warriors though, most people overlooked one of the most perfect side deck cards to date.

Possessed Dark Soul

Very few decks would ever main deck Possessed Dark Soul, however, who of us haven't run up against a clown deck or weenie-warrior deck and became completely frustrated as well saw monster after monster be sent to the graveyard before they were able to even attempt to make their first attack?

You've already played your Heavy Storm three turns ago to destroy your opponent's Level Limit Area B, used Mystical Space Typhoon on Messenger of the Peace Last Turn, and now your opponent has activated Stumbling and special summoned Dream Clown with Premature Burial to wipe out the only monster you had on the field"¦"¦and Last Turn when their Sangan was sent to the Graveyard they showed you the Blade Rabbit the searched for and now hold in their hand. Now what? If you set that Magician of Faith it won't see the end of your opponent's next turn.

Now instead, you set Sangan and wait for your next turn. Sure enough your opponent summons Blade Rabbit which turns to defense position from Stumbling's effect destroying Sangan. You search for Possessed Dark Soul. As soon as your opponent sees you've searched out Possessed Dark Soul"¦.you see the fear in their eyes and almost hear their heart drop! A wicked smile curls up on the corners of your mouth as your opponent ends their turn.

Sangan is now back from the ban list and Possessed Dark Soul is searchable with it. Last Will loves Possessed Dark Soul. Of course you can be safe to special summon it back from the graveyard with Call of the Haunted or Premature Burial to use it's effect once again. As long at Premature Burial or Call of the Haunted resolve you've got priority to use Possessed Dark Soul's effect.

Lets take a look at a short list of what you might find on your side of the field if you use Possessed Dark Soul's effect against the right deck. If you can look me in the eye and tell me none of these monsters never lost you games then you play in a different country than I do!

Bowganian
Kinetic Soldier
Relinquished
Sasuke Samurai
Arsenal Bug
Spirit Reaper
Dream Clown
Blade Rabbit
Injection Fairy Lily
Marauding Captain
Jinzo #7
Jowgen the Spiritualist
Raging Flame Sprite
Yomi Ship
Cliff the Trap Remover
Gyaku-Gire Panda
Spirit of the Breeze
Banisher of the Light
Thousand-Eyes Restrict
Goblin King
Magical Scientist (in traditional format games)

By activating Swords of Revealing Light before you use Possessed Dark Soul's effect you might also find these under your control:

Stealth Bird
Swarm of Scarabs
Swarm of Locusts

I hope now you might just see the value and potential Possessed Dark Soul has.

Card Text:

Tribute this face-up card to take control of all face-up Level 3 or lower monsters on your opponent's side of the field until they are removed from the field.

Rulings

1. If the opponent has more Level 3 or lower monsters on the field than you have empty Monster Card Zones after you Tribute this card (the Zone it occupied is now empty), you choose which ones to gain control of and the rest are destroyed. If you choose to destroy "Griggle" or "Ameba" in this manner, their effects do not activate since they never came to your side of the field.

2. You cannot gain control of face-down monsters with this card's effect, so the opponent may chain "Book of Moon" selecting a Level 3 or lower monster and they will keep control of it.

3. You maintain control of the monsters until they are removed from the field.

also, you may or may not have mentioned this John, but this card is also Chaos fodder, being Dark, and is searchable with Mystic Tomato as well.

I'll be back later with more, lol

Oh SURE....do you want me to think of EVERYTHING!? <mock gaffaw> I have to leave you folks SOMETHING to comment on! :D

As an unabashed fiend evangelist, I'm happy to say I've pondered this little devil multiple times in my fiend decks. He hasn't made it there yet, but the effect is so perfect. Especially effective is the fact that you get to keep them permanently, AND if you have fewer spaces than avaialbe, you just get to destroy the monster. In a particularly lethal move, slap a Demotion onto their 5 star heavy hitter and then posess them 8^D

Mataza the zapper is missing in that list

Lets also not forget how many monsters are level three in the face of a legendary ocean.

It is for this reason I run possesed dark soul in my fire princess's side deck

Mataza the Zapper is missing from that list for a reason. If face up on the field it's control cannot switch.

He hasn't made it into my Fiend deck either, but he's perfect side deck material as mentioned in the original review. I run 2. Searchable by Mystic Tomato and now Sangan too.

has no one thought of using cost down then take the level 5 monsters and keep them. or using 2x cost down can think of a reason why having a level seven of your opponents over for lunch is a good thing?

well, monsters effected by Cost Down return to their original level of Stars at the end of the turn, so PDS would have no chance to take them, also Cost Down only effects your monsters

Well, there's nothing stating that if a monster has its level lowered and boosted again that it goes back to your opponent's side of the field. To my knowledge, Posessed Dark Soul is a one time "smash and grab" type operation, so you get to keep them regardless. Cost Down might be a little risky since your opponent would have to activate it and it only affects the cards in the owner's hand. Maybe you're getting mixed up with Demotion.

The effect is great.

It's permanent too until the monster is removed from the field. I play it against burn decks and wait for them to swarm with Stealth Bird, Des Koala, Raging Flame Sprite, etc.
