The purpose of the the "Looking Ahead" series of Card Reviews is to take cards from the OCG that haven't made their way to the TCG yet and open up a discussion of things to come. Often times the cards chosen will be quite useful in a variety of different decks as well give an insight into the Japanese Metagame.
Each review will include the name of the card and a translation of the effect. Keep in mind that while the translations may not necessarily be "official", they often will be (mechanically) correct for how the card would be played in the TCG. Where possible, I have used Konami's translations of the cards, though I will clarify their wording when necessary.
Example: Necroface's text in WC07 states that when he is Normal Summoned you CAN shuffle all Removed from Play cards back into their owner's Decks. However, Necroface's effect is Manditory (even Konami programmed it that way), so "can" was removed from the effect text to better give an accurate representation of his effect.
Also included is the set where the card can be found in Japan as well as a "best guess" as to where it would appear should the TCG get the game. Since Yu-Gi-Oh! as a Card Game is owned by several different factions, each group has some control over the cards released for the game. This is why cards listed as appearing in various Jump Magazines will only end up appearing through Shonen Jump in one form or another (since they are all owned by the same parent company: Shueisha), while other cards are under Konami's control (such as Video Game Promos).
Also noted is that while I may give a "best guess" as to where the card might appear, there is no guarentee that ANY of cards reviewed will make it to the TCG (unfortunately). Sometimes though I will choose a card from a Video Game Promo or a Future Set that should all but ensure we will get it. Also, if 2007 is any indication of the future of Yu-Gi-Oh!, then it will seem likely that sooner or later we will end up with a majority of these cards. Given how good some of these are, one can only hope.
Lastly, this is being done for fun. Comments and feedback are strongly encouraged so please add to the conversation on each card. Also, I don't have a set schedule on when I do these. To start with, things may be more frequent but there also maybe a few days before any new review appears. However, there are hundreds of cards I can still choose from with new ones coming all the time so I won't run out of choices anytime soon. I hope you all enjoy this new feature as we see what's possibly around the corner for us.
