Trap
Negate the attack of 1 of your opponent's monsters and inflict Direct Damage equal to the attacking monster's ATK to your opponent's Life Points.
Well here's a number a lot people are familiar with. There are many pros and cons to this card. Lets start with the pros.
Like Mirrorforce this card will negate the attack. The attack gets negated and the opponent gets dealt direct damage equal to the monster ATK. All of it, not just the original but the increases as well. This card was one of the reasons a person feared using a high attack monster near the end of the game. That face-down card could very well be this trap and the monster you planned on attacking with had enough attack power to end the game, with the opponent getting the victory. Or you have used it in the beginning to get a head lead in life points.
Burn decks should have some fun with it. Use it combination with Dark Room of Nightmare's. Or perhaps in combination with a ring of destruction. You lose a portion of life points but the opponent loses double that. Odds are they would go down to somewhere near the halfway point of their life points and if not they will lose at least 1000 negating it with Seven tools. They attack but they pay for it.
Like all cards though, it has its drawbacks. For one thing, this card can ONLY be activiated when one of the opponent's monsters attacks. There's plenty of spell/trap removal that goes around, making this card less effective. Certain monsters themselves will prevent its effect besides Jinzo. Tyrant Dragon, Ryu Senshi, and now with the rise of destiny set, Pitch Black Warwolf and Mirage Dragon.
Unlike Mirror Force, it'll only work on one monster. That means if your opponent has a swarm of monsters on the field, you just slightly blunted the beating you're about to get.
Another drawback is the fact that it won't destroy the monster. It'll only stop the attack. Giant Orcs, Spear dragons, and Goblin Attack Force won't change to defense mode at the end of the battle phase since the attack was negated. Your opponent loses the life points but they keep their monsters in a desirable battle position. That's assuming they don't do something to reverse the damage.
Since this card doesn't simply 'transfer' the damage and actually 'does' direct damage, it falls victim to Barrel behind the door. The opponent could also simply use Pikeru's Circle of enchantment or Hallowed Life Barrier. Your back to square one (no pun intended) with the opponent's monster still in play and his life points unharmed by the trap.
It only stops one attack so monsters that can attack twice will still get to attack another time. In this case, Nightmare wheel, Shadow spell or Spellbinding Circle is better. They permanently stop the monster from attacking again as long as they're in play.
What it really comes down to it, is what you consider more important. The destruction of the monster or the negation of the attack. If you prefer having the monster get destroyed than you're better off with something else.
