Manticore of Darkness IOC-067

Manticore of Darkness
Effect Monster (Beast-Warrior / FIRE / 6 Stars / ATK 2300 / DEF 1000)

During the End Phase of the turn this card is sent to the Graveyard, send 1 Beast, Beast-Warrior or Winged Beast-Type Monster Card from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard to Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.

As we get ready to leave the realm of Chaos we get ready to head into the Jungles where Beasts far and wide roam. Thanks to "Flaming Eternity", Beast based decks received some great support. Today though we look at one from an earlier set that should be a staple for the deck regardless if you go straight Beast or themed Beast (Beast, Beast-Warrior, Winged Beast).

While at 2300, "Manticore of Darkness" falls just below the "Jinzo" line, but still beats most non-tribute monsters you will see. His recursion effect will also make him one of the annoying cards to get rid of. Since you can choose a Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast Type from either your hand or field anytime the Manticore is sent to the Graveyard (not merely destroyed), you can Special Summon him to the field during that turn's End Phase (yours or your opponent's). This ability, when comboed with "Card of Safe Return" can give you extra drawing power (and if you loop 2 Manticores, you can draw your whole deck which is why this is used in Exodia decks).

"Manticore of Darkness" is a very strong card that can form a solid cornerstone in a Beast themed deck.

when i used to run just straight beasts and beast warriors back when IOC came out, this guy was the #1 card in my deck. (and he was the first ultra rare i pulled from IOC, followed by Strike Ninja)

Manticore of Darkness is truly one of the best monsters in the game. With the ability to revive itself by just sending to the graveyard ONE beast, winged beast, OR beast warrior, ALL of which now have great support, this monster shines. Is it a staple tribute in all decks? hell no. dont even touch it in decks outside of [beast] decks.

It works well now in Harpy themed decks, and of course, in the newly reimbursed (sp?) beast decks. Not to mention theres always Enraged Battle Ox which gives him a trample effect. (and if Manticore dies of course, you know....)

Manticore laughs in Behemoth's face. (Not in Threatening Roar, however)

Rating:
1/5 in just any deck
5/5 in a themed deck

Art:
4/5 wish it was mythologically correct, but...

Manticore is undoubtedly an awesome card...For the cost of one beast/beast-warrior/winged beast from the field OR your hand, he springs back irregardless of how he got into the grave. And with his nice attack he makes it hard for the opponent to regain field control when he just bounces back after a RoD or Sakretsu Armor. If only he was a 2400 attacker tho, he could suicide into Jinzo, Mobius, Phoenix, and the other 2400's...Oh well, great card nonetheless (for BEAST decks!).
