Mefist the Infernal General DCR-066 / DB1-EN228

Card Name:
Mefist the Infernal General
Sources:
DCR-066 (Rare), DB1-EN228 (Common)
Stats:
Effect Monster Fiend / DARK / 5 Stars / ATK 1800 / DEF 1700

Text:
When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of your opponent's Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, discard 1 card randomly from your opponent's hand.

Rulings:
[Re: Magical Thorn] The effect of "Magical Thorn" is applied when the opponent discards during the End Phase to make their hand size 6, discarding for the cost of cards such as "Tribute to the Doomed", "Cost Down", or "Judgment of Anubis", and discarding for card effects such as "Delinquent Duo", "Confiscation", "Robbin' Goblin", "Morphing Jar" and "Mefist the Infernal General".

Comments:
He's VERY slow. But Mefist, single handedly sometimes, has won me so many duels that I almost feel guilty only THINKING about taking him out of my deck. Why is Mefist so deadly? Because your opponent BETTER be ready to attack him. Setting a monster face-down is asking for trouble. A lot of people say "1800ATK for 1 tribute?!?! No Way!!! That's too weak!" And they are mostly right. However, a player running Mefist and/or concentrating on Mefist's effect, will USE his 1800ATK to their fullest advantage. How? Have the Damage Step be full of surprises for them. Make the Damage Step be FULL of goodies like Rush Recklessly and Energy Drain. Blast With Chain and Mirror Wall. Curse of Aging and Bark Of Dark Ruler After 2 rounds of this, they've lost 2 monsters on the field, plenty of Life Points and 2 cards in their hand, but more importantly, Mefist's PSYCHOLOGICAL damage will be irreparable. Your opponent will be SO afraid to attack and yet, they will know that placing monsters in defense mode won't help much either.

Strengths:
Single Tribute.

Has trample effect.

Has hand thinning effect when does battle damage, which comes "free" when going against face down mosnters.

Weaknesses:
Mediocre ATK for a single tribute monster.

Combos:
Last Will + Mefist Tribute + Winged Minion = 2500 Mefist beater.
Mefist + Ballista of Rampart Smashing = 3300 trampler.
Tribute Mefist for Byser Shock + Puppet Magic of Dark Ruler = Opening the doors for Mefist's grand return.

AND, of course there is the 5* Metamorphasis trick of providing you with Dark Balter the Terrible.

there is nothing funny about Mesfit. Despite constant praise by some fanatics, this card remains the absolute sleeper card of the century! (yes, I am one of those fanatics:))

But come on, Dillie-O! Let em know the infamous combo. For those who know Mr. Taveras and Mr. Goldblatt, they came out with an amazing combo over a year ago that used all unlimited cards, with Mesfit being the hardest to obtain.

Mesfit the Infernal General
Rush Recklessly
Ojama Trio
Staunch Defender

Most people have no fear of attacking Mesfit, because they see it as a pushover. Activate Ojama Trio and when their big monster attacks, activate Rush Recklessly and Staunch Defender. They will have to attack a 2500 discarding monsters, with 0 atk strength Tokens, who will do 300 damage themselves.
thats
2500+2500+2500+300+300+300+whatever the attack of the opponent's original attacker was.

Minimum damage inflicted? 8400:)

also, as Daguy once said, if you play Banner of Courage with him on the field, most duelists will ignore it as too (in)significant an increase, but it'll make Mefist a 2000 ATK impaling beatstick with a Robbin' Goblin built in.

Lol, when did i say that? Let me think.. ahh yes on Valentine's Day this year:

More specifically that your opponent won't want to use an MST nor Dust Tornado on an "insignificant" card

When things are really starting to Shift the momentum my way, I cap things off with a nice "fiend sword", the Wicked Breaking Flamberge Baou and give it to Mefist, then he REALLY gets to swing with little worries.

Personally, I've always found Mefist the Infernal General to be a great asset to a Fiend deck. Granted, 1800 ATK for a Tribute monster is nothing to write home about, but there are ways around that as pointed out in the other threads.

And he's not just for Fiend decks. Heck, Airknight Parshath is considered one of the better Light Tribute monsters around - these guys are polar opposites of one another. Yet, he's never really been given the chance even with only 100 less ATK.

And dig the original Japanese name.... Hellish General - Mephisto. Now that's cool. Give it a try.

Mefist??

I was putting a trample deck together and was given 2 Mefist's by a friend. I considered them for the deck and decided instead on 2 Dark Driceratops.
600 more trample points seemed better then a random selection of an opponents card. (How stupid would i feel if it were a Burning Alge!!

Mefist the Infernal General is deffinantly better than Dark Driceratops because it's effect has alot of things you can base decks around along with depleting their hand size down lower and lower giving you a greater advantage in the game. I've tried out things with it before and there are alot of things to do with it.

Yes, hand advantage is FAR better than dealing an extra 600 damage. Otherwise, people wouldn't have played Confiscation back in the day, except to look at your opponent's hands, as only discarding 1 card while paying 1000 LP was too much LP payment. I'm gonna try out a Mefist this week, and see how it runs. Maybe even a Banner of Courage, XD

Banner of Courage... whoa whoa... old school card right there... well, sort of.

Mefist vs. Driceratops:
Round 1:
Mefist can create hand advantage... if he stays on the field.
Driceratops can destroy the majority of your opponent's monsters... if he stays on the field.
Mefist wins that.
Round 2:
Mefist has an ATK of 1800.
Driceratops has an ATK of 2400.
Mefist got pwn3d in that.
Round 3:
Mefist is a DARK fiend.
Driceratops is an EARTH dinosaur.
Mefist wins that. Dino's have no support.

So Mefist is better than Driceratops. Sometimes...

Squid: Could you please walk me through this combo with the correction on Staunch Defender?

that combo also just destroys your hand and field presence, for a reward of what? one card from opponent's hand and a monster removal.

as many people know, this guy was chilling back with is old friend Dark Ruler Ha Des and Jinzo in Solitude "The Motion Picture"

It can create very good hand advantage, the sole idea of keeping your opponents options limited and controling every aspect of the game is much more impressive than an airknight or Dark Driceratops.

Dinos do have support btw, Ultra Evolution Pill + Sinister Serpent = 1 Big Dino, usually this combo brings out Dark Tyranno, but who uses that or who even make dino decks now adays.

so dont keep the driceratops or the dino's/ reptiles on the downlow, they have minimal support but still can make a solid deck to work around with.

The Evil Trinity unlike the chaos trinity work with complete and utter control.

Jinzo = No traps
Dark Ruler = Monsters destroyed by fiends lose their effects
Mephist = Hand Control and while Dark ruler on the field negates effects and anahilates Scapegoat which is what the current meta plays.

as we can see the Evil trinity works really solid and evil enough to make a good deck around. Dont dis the card untill you have learned how to use it. :D

the attack is less than average but hey Different Dimension Dragon is 1200 attack and its a tribute monster as well. :)

remember the current meta is running about with chaos and Chaos will someday no longer rain supreme,

its upto us to find trinities or partnerships that can take the Chaos Trinity and show it whos boss. :)
