New SJC Promo Revealed!

It's a great card and if I had the card I would run it in a deck that I have been wanting to do for a while. It is not a bad card especially for a level 6 monster. And just think about how many spell card are activated in a turn these days. Pot-Graceful-Delinquent are given already. And then you have the abuse factor of all 3. That's a plus 600 attack power already.

See, I think this card would have been best served as a Tournament Pack Ultra Rare rather than the prize for the SJCs. We all know that NOBODY is going to actually play it, and immediately toss it out on eBay and buy themselves a nice car instead.

I've thought about this a bit in the past couple days, actually, since I am a mega-collector (within reason). This is the kind of card that is best PLAYED rather than encased in carbonite and hung on Jabba's wall.

I believe that the choice of prize card reflects poorly on both Konami and UDE. To me, this further reinforces that they just don't care much about the state of the metagame. I'm not saying that Des Volstgalph would 'break' the meta if it were mass-produced, but it would have been an awesome new card for people that don't like playing the standard CCCCCCCC (is that enough Cs?) decks. This card would be good in a number of decks, actually.

I still maintain that BEUD would have been the 'correct' choice here. It would be just as collectible, worth just as much (or probably more), and let's face it -- it's generally worthless in actual play. If you're only going to make 50 or so of a card, it shouldn't be something that would have potentially improved the diversity of the game across the board.

$0.02.

You know what chaos general, it might end up being easier to get then we think. Look around at the other boards and look at how all these tourney players are talking aboout it only being worth selling. Their convincing the new players that its not worth a durn. So little by little they are working the cards value down. Between you and me (and the few thousand other memebrs :p) we could probably get one for cheap on ebay.
The thing that you're forgetting is, in order to GET one of these cards, you aren't going to "luck-up" and win one. More than likely, it's going to be a darn good player who is going to win it at a SJC and when (if) he auctions it, he should put a reserve limit on (I know "I" would), so that if it isnt met, he can at least try again after it gets a little more popular in demand.

Realistically, I don't see this getting near the $23,000 mark, even with UDE trying their best to promote the fact that it wont be reprinted anytime soon (now, if it were them saying that it will come out at the same time Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon does, then we all know that could be never!!!), but there's that old saying, "A fool and his money are soon parted..."

I really have to agree with you on that for reason I really don't see the gigantic hype becomming that of like cyber stein. I can not imagine someone wanting to pay that much for just a single card when most likely it will be re-released again at some point for a wider public access.

If they don't release it again, I'm gonna be pretty angry... Maybe angry enough to break saltines. Oh yeah, I said it- I might break saltine crackers...

But seriously, it probably won't get that much of a price on EBay, or at least nowhere over $100, I think, and I'm sure that UDE will reprint it in Dark (Insert exotic timestamp here) (Insert number here). They did with Cyber-Stein at least.

I doubt that they'd never release it again seeing as they released Cyber Stein again as a lowly rare. Or maybe they did that for stein simply because of the fact so many people demanded it come to the US sooner. And so far all of the SJC cards are character cards. Cyber Stein being Kaiba and this one being Yugi. So it is interesting to see if they will ever come up with some originality and actually release something that'd provide a real dramatic twist to the metagame. But seeing as they have not been doing anything like that so far I doubt they'd start now. They are more interested in making their billions from the tournament turn out from all of the hopefuls wanting this so called exclusive amazing prize card. Really it is kind of pathetic.

I don't see it garnishing that much scrillah (cash) either. Suffice it to say, I don't believe a thing that comes out of Kevin Tewart's mouth. I wouldn't be surprisedif it came out in DB3 or whatever the heck thier calling the next excuse to make money. They havenever been consistant with what is and isn't reprinted. They just do whatever they want. They'll change their mind in a few months or less. I gauruntee it.

Exactly because they do not care about the game at all they just care about making as much cash as they can so they can just prepare their off shore estates and swiss bank accounts for when the game goes out of play and no one likes it anymore. Same thing with the VS system. It makes me pitty the hard working judges and the dedicated players of the game.

Kaiba didn't use Cyber-Stein, if I remember correctly.
You are right he never used it on the show but it was just known as a Kaiba theme card after the fact it was put in his structure deck. Everyone just seems to say it is a Kaiba card.

Since when did UDE decide the cards?

Kevin is responsible for the shonen jump and sneak preview cards.

Not to mention the Collector Tins, Duelist League, Hobby League and the Tournament Packs as well. I don't think Kevin/UDE has the final say on ANYTHING (there is so much proof of this), but they seem to have some level of input on pretty much all the non-Video Game promo cards. I expect that they might have a say on the special edition Starter/Structure Deck sets as well ... things like the Duel Master's Guide and the new Deluxe Edition coming out next month. Oh, and don't forget that they write the Tip Cards as well.

[In case nobody's heard, 9/1/2005 brings us a new set for $24.99 that has SD1/SD2, 2 'custom' game mats, and Secret Rare versions of Armed Dragon LV7 and Rope of Life. OK, the first person to get me either A) a 150dpi scan of that card (not likely), or B) a really high quality and mostly straight digital photograph of the mega card gets a RONINâ„¢ T-Shirt courtesy of me.

That picture is too small, believe it or not. Even after perspective correction, it's no good.

Let me be clear: it's the first image I get that is good enough for me to crop out the artwork for our library, not necessarily the first one I get.

EDIT: New rule: I'm looking for the Ultra Rare foil, OR a common with that artwork. The Secret Rare printed in Japan doesn't count. The *preferred* thing here is a hi-res shot of that massive card they have in Indy.... that's what we did for Cyber-Stein.

The picture must help me improve the quality of this (this is about 75% size, and made from that shot above)

Hey... is that offer for the T-Shirt still valid? *Whistles Innocently*
