Rumor around the web is that there's a new Yu-Gi-Oh! series on the horizon, once GX finishes it's run. One unconfirmed source postulated that the new series will be called Duelist Genesis. Another called it Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D. LittleKuhriboh posted on his site that the new series would feature a teen who rides a motorcycle that transforms into a giant robot....with a Duel Disk attached to it.

Here are some random images presumably about this new series taken from the BBS.Newswise Boards. But since I don't speak Japanese, I can't verify everything I'm seeing. Enjoy anyways.

He's got pointy hair with yellow streaks in it. It must be a Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Not to mention it's set a few years after the preceding series (i.e. Jaden is older).

I'm not surprised there's a new series. Otherwise the guy who invents new cards will have to come up with cards for the actual card game, instead of copying whatever intricate little pieces of rubbish the anime invents.

I'm at least hoping the characters in this series have a little amount of intelligence (surely they must have lots of intelligence if they're playing this particular children's card game?, you ask), and, upon seeing that the trump monster is a weak one, will actually assume it has a special effect or a combo instead of simply looking at the ATK stat.

All that matters to me is that they stop with Elemental/Evil/Destiny/Elvis/Megalicious Hero thematic and start exploring more diverse themes like they used to in the old series.

Say hello to Synchron and Tuner monsters. The main character's signature card is Stardust Dragon, which is a Synchron. There's some big changes coming to the game within a few months, I figure. (Fusion Deck changing to "Extra Deck" and 15 cards max, plus possibly changing the side deck to be up to 15 cards, instead of 15 exactly.)

The main character is supposedly 18 right from the start, so older than Yugi or Jaden either one, was. I'm guessing by the time this comes around, Yugi will be in his early-mid-20s, and Jaden's probably somewhere between 18-20.

I'm taking a wild guess here, but "5Ds" would possibly signify 5 Dimensions.

The anime might be interesting (if utterly stupid), but I'm more interested in the changes to the game you mentioned. I'm not surprised there will be yet more themed cards (probably far too many, and nowhere near powerful enough to actually be used in the real game, of course).

How exactly will the Fusion Deck change to the Extra Deck? Will it now include all Fusion Monsters plus a few extra cards that can only be obtained by a regular card effect (and presumably are a bit stronger to compensate)? I suppose those upgraded Neo-Spacians (e.g. Neo-Spacian Marine Dolphin) could become just regular Effect Monsters instead of Fusions of 1 monster (a stupid concept if ever I heard one - A fusion of 1 monster?). IF they're willing to change the cards in that way, of course, which I severely doubt.

Hey, there's a thought. If all the stronger cards go into the Extra Deck, and it's made difficult to get those cards to use them, perhaps we're even looking at the end of the Banned List? All the banned cards could be listed as Extra Deck cards instead (perhaps with the stipulation that each card in the Extra Deck must be different).

I'll certainly be surprised if such a big change actually happens to the game. It'll confuse the smeg out of everyone, seeing as how the game isn't amazingly well explained in the first place. Ideally they'd take the opportunity to revamp the game some more, make things cleaner and rigidly defined and actually understandable, but we all know that won't happen. Which is a shame.

Well, this is basically the info, taken from Japanese OCG reports:

Now, some rule changes and Starter Deck 2008
RULES:
1. New Expert Rule --> Master Rule (dunno)
2. Sacrifice Summon --> Advance Summon (changing the name of a tribute summon?)
3. Cost of all type --> Release (again, dunno)
4. Fusion Deck --> Extra Deck - Also a limit of 15 cards max
5. Side Deck can now be 0 ~ 15 cards (was MUST be 15 cards and MUST have side)
6. Synchron Monsters:
6a. Color of the card: White
6b. They are put in the Extra Deck
6c. Can be special summon when the total level of the specific Tuner monster and other monsters match the level of the Synchron monster
7. Tuner Monster:
7a. Acts as special summoning requirement for Synchron monster
7b. Acts as effect monsters

Apparently the new Starter Deck 2008 has some of these monsters, and the set after Light of Destruction is full of them, including the "chase card" Stardust Dragon, which is a Synchron. I'm sure we'll obviously get the Fusion Deck to Extra Deck rules change, the first three I don't know about though, since the wording is just direct Japanese translation.

New rule sound way too complex, like Magic complex, I'll stick with the current rulings.

Wait, you were supposed to have a side deck? I always thought it was an optional waste of time.

Well, the Tuner and Synchron monsters are definitely coming, so I'm pretty sure the "Fusion deck" will get changed... the first three things, I have no idea on, it's just a basic translation, so it might actually be easier, once it gets worded over here.

As for the Side Deck issue, that might be Japan that was a MUST have. Here in the TCG, it was either no side deck, or 15 card side deck. No in-between. If this changes, well, it might allow for the in-between, but it won't really matter much, competitive players will pretty much always have 15 cards in it anyway.

Wait...what?? Have you been paying ANY attention at all?? GX took place a minimum of a DECADE after the end of DM, and 5D's is set SEVERAL decades after both! They're going to both be at least middle-aged, if not senior citizens.

Cranium posted that on February 29th, when there was very little info available, at least in English. In fact, I haven't really seen anything more now that is beyond what's already been speculated. So far, even both Wikis (Yu-Gi-Oh! and Wikipedia) have only posted some spare character bios and an equally spare rundown of the dueling formats. But I've not seen anything definitive about what time period it takes place in.
