Night Assaliant

If I send a Night Assaliant to the Graveyard by TIV's effect and there is Night Assaliant in the Graveyard already can I send that Night Assaliant back to my hand and send it back to the Graveyard by TIV's effect (If appropriate) and get back the Night Assaliant in my graveyard, etc etc? My friend says I can't but I'm not sure. Can someone clear this up for me?

The text on Night Assailant says: "When this card is sent directly from your hand to the Graveyard, return 1 Flip Effect Monster from your Graveyard to your hand." so since Night Assailant itself is a Flip effect monster there is no reason why you can't do this, the only limitation is that you obviously can't summon back the exact same Night Assailant, you do need there to already be one in the graveyard, however if you discard two at the same time (e.g. for Spell Vanishing) then you can use one to summon back the other and vice versa, so you get both back.

Well, don't exactly say if both are discarded at the same time. If they are discarded like this.

"I discard this and call Fiends."

Opponent: Ok.

"Now I discard this and say Spellcasters."

Since the other would already exist in your graveyard, you could bring back the other to your hand.

In addition to what helpoemer316 said, if a situation happens when 3 Night Assailants go from your hand to the Graveyard at the same time (due to a card effect), you can choose (when they go to the graveyard):

Night Assailant 1 will return Night Assailant 2
NA2 will return NA3
NA3 will return NA1

*poof* all come back...

Don't try to do this with Painful Choice though, since the cards are not considered "in your hand".

Then, the second effect of Night Assailant doesn't need that the same Night Assailant is going to be in the Graveyard at resolution.

The effect just needs to be correctly triggered.

Two Night Assailants can pull each other (when they both hit the Graveyard at the same time).

NA1 select NA2 -YES-
NA2 select NA1 -YES-

They cannot select themselves.

NA1 select NA1 - NO-
NA2 select NA2 -NO-

"FLIP: Select 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field and destroy it. When this card is sent directly from your hand to the Graveyard, return 1 Flip Effect Monster from your Graveyard to your hand."

i think it should include the phrase; "... return 1 Flip Effect Monster from your Graveyard to your hand except this monster."

It is similar to why Spear Cretin can't target itself. It being sent to the Graveyard is the triggering condition.

i get it. so there's like a place before it is in the graveyard so you can't select it coz its not yet in the graveyard. correct? hehehe...
