Oh the shame

I'm caught up in the whole originality vs manestream , I would like to hear some feed back on ,is there any shame in a useing a monarch/Gadgets deck that seems to be ruling the format or should you aim for something new?

What's wrong with doing both? You could use your Gadgets/Monarchs, but use supporting tech that is underrated and underused to surprise your opponent and keep him off guard. I can't sit here and say "you should not play Gadgets" or "you should not play Monarchs," nor can I say "yes, play Gadgets" or "yes, play Monarchs." The choice is yours obviously, and playing what suits you best is the way you'll want to go.

The main goal is to have fun, and even if you are losing more than winning, as long as you enjoy yourself, play what you want.

I hate how everyone lost sight of what the game is about.

Having fun. Winning is great yeah, but if you have to clone the World Champs deck and then run into that deck, over and over and over just so you can win.

Where's the fun?

I'd rather run a deck I like than one that everyone else is using... Stop looking at my Six Samurai deck!

I have fun when I build an inconsistent (but really cool) combo deck and get the whole combo going, even if it is just one out of ten duels. I don't really mind losing the other nine as long as I can improve my deck's consistency. Losing to me is part of learning and studying why everything has to work that way. Gadgets and Monarchs are good (and probably will be), but that does not mean everything else isn't.

well, U have to ask yourself one question ...

"What deck do I like the most?"

and when you have answered that.... ask one more

"What Deck do I like to USE the most?"

Often times you will find 2 different answers... but what I have found is that If you like the deck u run, cuz it is alot like YOUR personality.. RUN IT.... If that means gadgets and monarchs so be it... if it means Skill Drain , even though you dont win every time, so be it......

Example: I used to run cookie cutter beatdown (WAY BACK IN THE DAY).... until I started running Skill Drain... there is just something about shutting someone down while serving up a pounding that I like... it was a new unexpected spin on just a beatdown on your opponent... Not only did you Pound them in the ground but you get to hold their monsters down while you do it.. .. then I threw in Cold Wave.... and that made it so that when i counted I was totally shutting them down while I decimated them........ That is my style... to Control and serve up well delivered finishing blows... ( I guess its the Martial Artist in me).... however

I had a friend who was always in the top 4 of the tourneys.. and he ran burn..... he would lock the field up, and widdle away at your points guilt free... he would not have to pound u at all.. just wait it out... and he was good at it..

Bottom Line.. if it fits your personality, do it..... who cares who else does it.... just do YOUR THING... cuz in the end.. this game is about having fun.... The reason there are so many different types of cards is not just about the $$$.... its to keep it interesting to EVERYONE.... that is why YuGioh is so successful... there is enough personality in all of the cards for anyone and everyone to create a deck that matches their personality....it doesnt matter what you pick,,, there is ALWAYS enough cards out there to support what you are doing.... even if its Amazoness or Dark Scorpions,, and your style can always find a way to win.... thats just how it is... cuz u dont always have to use the "Staple" cards in a deck.... Pound and Ground just happens to be MY STYLE.... what is Yours??

Just remember that any deck can do extremely well. Just think about the last few SJCs. Original decks have been dominating. Demise OTK, DDT, Skull Lair even, all original, all winning. If monarchs or gadgets are the most commonly played decktype in a metagame, that just makes building original decks a lot more easier, seeing how you know what options should be considered for inclusion in the deck or not, and nobody will be expecting something new, and of course, there is the fun in that of surprising your opponent.

In the end, it's purely your choice of deck that you enjoy using. Nobody should influence that decision, or should give any insults etc or anything. Also, even with a deck such as Monarchs or Gadgets or a hybrid, it is still possible to be original, by including some personal touches.

As the founder of the CookieSlayer Collective, I obviously want to encourage people to try new things and put real effort into making something original and making it work. But that said, the whole point of the CSC is to get people out of their rut and have fun. The ONLY thing we are trying to accomplish with Yu-Gi-Oh! is to get people to have fun with the game again.

So while I may not play CC decks myself, I won't disparage someone who does like CC. I'll just encourage him to branch out. Even our own CSC members have a CC deck or two that they play when they feel like. And since CC is such a flexible term, changing each time the Meta changes, then it would be impossible to directly define what is CC and then say "don't play that".

I'd simply encourage you to continue having fun with the game. Play what works best, and if that's CC go with that. All I ask is that you respect those who like to play outside the box (something CC players have had a tendency to not do) and keep your options open. Branch out every now and again and give your imagination a chance. That's the only negative side to CC decks. The don't encourage creativity and imagination. In fact, they tend to punish you for it. But the who point of a Customizable Card Game (CCG) is to use your imagination, not do what every one else does, all the time, no matter what. There's nothing wrong with sharpening your skills on the same old deck types that are out there, just as long as you realize that there's nothing wrong with sharpening your mind with something different. That is the gist of what the CSC is about. Expanding the game and your abilities, making sure that you always have fun because you always have options.

I use my ratbaox cause I like earth attribute monsters and I also like toolbox-like decks(the ratbox is a kind of toolbox so yeah,I like it)

The thing about Monarch/Gadget decks is that Forced Back and Pulling the Rug are their worst nightmares...other than my Skill Drain Deck of course.

most of the time, regardless of what you use, if it's competative someone is gonna call it a netdeck. It is the fate of a game in which half of a players deck is usually staples.

If someone t8s a shonen with a deck you thought up of independantly then everyone is gonna start calling you a net decker.

In addition, what's wrong with getting inspiration from other players? What's wrong with sharing ideas? What's wrong with netdecking? In a game with such a limited pool of playable cards it's no wonder net decking is so common.''

In my opinion, nothing is wrong with netdecking. In addition, alot of people call others netdeckers have a double standard. You have to remember how many yugioh players are young and immature.

There is no problem using monarch or Gadget, especially considering they are just pure advantage cards. DDT uses an engine to create advantage. Bazoo return or any return varient uses cards (like card trooper) to send cards off the top to throughally mill through their deck and hit in one shot... Demise searches for combo pieces with the various pieces (Manju/senju/sonic bird/blacksmith) untill it clears field and summons huge guys to the table to do 8000...These are all good decks that are currently the top tier or at least close.
The fastest way to learn how to beat something is to build it and see what it's trouble spots are. From there you can ultimately improve on the current version or make a deck that beats it and (if done correctly) other top tier decks.

Or if you see a chance create an engine like DDT or The Library engine and work it into a win condition. There are a ton of good decks out there... theres no shame in running something similar to everyone else out there... but don't forget your personal playstyle and your area's metagame.
Needless to say Monarch/gadget doesnt work in a meta filled with Counterfairy... or other decks prepared for it. So just see whats viable.

something else to consider - if you want to know how to beat any deck - you should put that deck together and run it... not once or twice - but several tournaments...until you understand where their strengths and weakness' are...its all part of the learning process... which is all part of the fun - for me anyway...
