Panther Warrior
Effect Monster - EARTH/Beast-Warrior
ATK: 2000, DEF: 1600
4-Star
"This card cannot attack unless you Tribute 1 monster on your side of the field."

We keep tin week rolling with Panther Warrior, a card most of us were introduced to by Joey Wheeler from the GameBoy video games and anime.
Panther Warrior boasts an impressive 2000 ATK in a 4-star monster. 1600 DEF isn't outstanding, but it makes it more Book of Moon and Tsukuyomi proof than most monsters with his attack value. EARTH has massive support, and Beast-Warrior is a very viable deck-type when paired up with Beasts. So with all the good, there must be a bad right? You must tribute a monster in order for Panther Warrior to declare an attack. Sounds bad already, right? I mean, who wants to give up field presence just to declare an attack? Well, it's not as bad as you might initially think.
You could just use him as a wall to protect your life points, but I would strongly discourage you from trying that. The fact that you can attack with another monster first, then tribute said monster so that Panther Warrior can attack helps a little. You can of course use tokens, and your opponent's monsters too if you can get them to your side of the field. Brain Control, Creature Swap, Snatch Steal (and in Traditional, Change of Heart) and the like help there. As do the element Charmer monsters, particularly the Earth Charmer since it likely fits the deck-type more easily.
The downside is of course you're giving up field presence. I would advise only attacking with Panther Warrior in the following situations:
- you can get the win by doing it
- you're tributing a monster that will die at the end of the turn or on your opponent's turn
- you're tributing your opponent's monster
Otherwise, the field presence you give up can hurt you in the long run, especially if the attack gets negated.
Panther Warrior works best in a Beast/Beast-Warrior deck. He gains "trample" thanks to Enraged Battle Ox, can get monsters if you use the above listed Spells, and can get tribute fodder with cards like Scapegoat, Nimble Momongas, cards gained by Rescue Cat's effect, etc.
Panther Warrior is certainly not splashable everywhere and he's definitely not for everyone. However, those who can use him will find he can be quite helpful and that the downside isn't as bad as it seems.
Advanced: 3.75/5 - he still takes a hit cause of the field presence issue
Traditional: 2/5 - you can still do it, but his effect is slower here
Limited: --/5
