Alright, since this site usually has an interesting crowd of people on a daily basis. Since I quit Yu-Gi-Oh! because of personal reasons I figured this would be a great time to bring up this great topic now that I have so much extra time to develop my PC Gaming skills again.

Since I have my awesome new computer I was kinda wondering what some of the PC games you guys might play and some of the things you might recommend.

I've been playing these:

War Rock
Supreme Commander
Quake 4
Continuum

I've been thinking of expanding my PC gaming with possibly online Pokemon battling like I did when it first came out -- don't knock it until you've tried it. So I'd like to hear some things from other PC gamers.

I recommend ToonStruck. It's a very old game (DOS-based), and it takes skill to make it able to work on a Windows machine, but it's worth it. It's a good game.

the new c&c game kicks ass ya could play that.
Already played it. Wasn't very impressed. I think Supreme Commander is better anyway.

I'm pretty sure Vista on my PC will drop kick me in the head if I try and mess with it. So I rather not risk it.

Sort of along the same lines but not DOS based is a blast from the past... Battlezone by Activision. Not the wireframe video arcade version. It's a fun single-player game, both strategy and action.

You're missing out. Plus, you have Vista. *laughs and points* You have my sympathy.

I play Tomb Raider: The Lost Artifact on my PC. And with no controler even. <sigh>
That's Tomb Raider 3 with the 5 extra levels, isn't it? I recently completed the original Tomb Raider, and I'm certainly getting Anniversary when it comes out (the remake). It looks like it'll be good, if Legend is anything to go by. The original was simple and functional, yet obviously improvable (at the very least, character models and textures).

Tk, Tomb Raider is a good choice, particularly the latest (Legend). Legend wasn't particularly difficult, although it does have replay value (if only because collecting all the secrets and completing all time trails unlocks swimsuit outfits for Lara to wear).

Personally I prefer the keyboard and mouse layout to a controller. Perhaps it's because of virtually no experience with a controller. Thumbstick things just don't feel as manoeuvrable as a mouse to me. And as for Tomb Raider (any of them) , I've only ever played it on PC, so I'm used to it.

In UWI, we currently play Warcraft 3 The Frozen throne (well everyone pretty much just plays the DotA maps but my GF and myself like to play TowerDefence maps), we LAN GTA2 alot for fun and interesting games, HALO is a must (it's priceless to watch someone run around with a Plasma-grenade stuck to their face!), I recently finished GTA Vice City, I started Age of Mythology just to find that it was Age of Empires with the major difference being in the units and campaigns; the gameplay and concept were exactly the same, my brother and i have re-embarked on a quest of adventure with Pokemon Blue (we play with the NO$$GB emulator so that we can play at the same time, trade and battle. The one game i want to get is Twisted Metal, that game is real dred!! I just like Racing/Driving games with guns/weapons.

So far, I haven't encountered any level similar to Tomb Raider 3. Everything has been rather unique. Well, as unique as Tomb Raider levels get, anyway. But the puzzles and layouts are completely different, not to mention, the whole Lockness Monster plot line.

Half-Life 2, followed up Half-Life 2 Episode 1. If you set the difficulty to high, it will keep you busy for quite some time. Then get into HL2 Deatchmatch, set up or join a server, and watch as you slowly fade away from the real world :D

And it runs dandy on Vista, if you're video drivers are up to speed. Recent nVidias seem fine for me.

I even use a joystick for Half-Life, always have. A bit hard to get used to at first, but you can pull off some wicked moves. One guy I know used racing game pedals for Half-Life :D

I meant you were talking about Tomb Raider 3 when you were talking about the game you were playing (The Lost Artefact).

I assume for the rest of your post you were talking about Legend. 8 levels, Excalibur, magnetic grapple, max. 3 medikits, that kind of thing.

If you weren't talking about Legend, then fair enough. As I got each successive game in the series, I played less and less of each one, so I wouldn't know much about the later games. I intend to play and complete them all, though. Perhaps this summer, when I'm not doing all that writing I also intend to do.

And it's the Loch Ness Monster ;)

Oh, I see what you mean. Nope, Tomb Raider: The Lost Artifact came out around the same time as the original trilogy. It's an old school Tomb Raider game with those same polygonal graphics and ability to get stuck in walls. She crawls and climbs ladders, so I presume it came out around the same time as 3. But she doesn't bank corners while hanging, so it had to be prior to The Last Revelation. I still haven't played Chronicles yet. Can't find a copy. Doubt I'll ever get to play Dark Angel.

Hey, if my spell check don't know, neither do I. :dur

I've never played Half-Life games for PC. I played one for PS2 and it seemed to be an extremely long game. Not that it's a bad thing. Most shooter games lack a lengthy single player mode.

Warcraft 3 is boring to me. I already have my RTS game and that's Supreme Commander. I hate GTA games. Horrible graphics. I hear the newest one (if it's out) has great graphics, a decent story mode, and is for PS3. Never played the Tomb Raider games. They just didn't seem all that appealing. =/

I'm recently thinking of getting Battlefield 2142. It's suppose to be like War Rock but actually done correctly. I'm just curious if it's free to play online and I'm assuming it is.

Tomb Raider requires a one to hole up in the corner of his game room and concentrate on something that shouldn't really be all that difficult, but is. You either love or hate Tomb Raider. But the only way to know is to try one out. I honsetly love the ability to explore the unknown, but I get so frustrated with not being able to find the next step in the game.

Quake 4 gives me that man. The Elite Strogg soldiers flank you and cover for one another while others advance on your position. Now make that enemy force of soldiers about 14 and you have one heck of a challenge. Not the same as Tomb Raider but still is very similar in its own respect.

Yes, BF2142 is free to play online... a few of my old gaming clan buddies play it currently, although I've given up on PC Games.

Awesome. I shall buy the game then cause it looks extremely promising. =)

BF2142 has been giving me some issues with staying connected tot he servers. Still a fun game to play when you got a few hours to kill.

I've recently been messing around with the old game Fallout Tactics. It's been proving to be quite a challenge with all the stuff you have to do in the game and from my research from old sites, wiki, and archive databases of all the information on the game and the others before it. I don't feel like I need to explain what the game is about. You can google it and find plenty of information all on your own about the game.

Also, with all of this time on my hands I can venture into Dungeons & Dragons while slowly working on my own PC Board game at a consistant snail pace.

If I can ever get all the information for my game ready and documented, I would post it up here for you guys to look over and give me feedback on. I won't get into details about it right now, unless someone wants me to. However, I can say that the way the game is going to be setup will enable players to transition the game from PC to physical game materials with some original game mechanic features cut out and possibly other things added. Also just to add to that, the game is influenced by many things outside of what I personally want in it.

So does anyone else have anything to contribute/ask to the discussion of PC games, the gaming industry, video games, TCGs, CMGs, game design, etc.?

I do have something I would like to know from you guys.

"In your opinion, what are the key ingredients that every game should have?"

It's a very interestion question that always gives varied answers it seems. Just thought I'd bring it up with you guys. =P

That totally depends on what type of player you are...

I'm a team player so I always like games with teams... I loved Tribes/Tribes2.

I'm a strategy player so I always like games requiring thinking and strategy... I loved Battlezone.

I like shooting/action games so I loved both of those mentioned above.

Seems like I had a penchant for picking not very popular games. :D

Yeah, I know what you mean about picking unpopular games to play. Your answer was also a little vague but then again I never asked for detailed answers. XD

I'm the kind of person that likes games to involve a level of strategy on your part that makes it unique to everything else out there. Fallout Tactics is a great example of that. You drop your two sniper specialists into Prone position on Aggressive mode and watch them pop-shot Raiders, Deathclaws, Super Mutants, and Reavers from across the level.

I like games that involve multiple types of games all wrapped up into one neat little package. Fallout Tactics, once again, is a great example of that. It's an Action, RPG, and RTS all neatly packaged for your gaming pleasure.

I can't really explain this believe of mine to anyone but a game shouldn't be defined as good or bad based off graphics. A lot of gamers that I've talked to over the years in all the games I've played have kept telling me "awesome graphics = awesome game" and I totally disagree with that. One of the games I play is an excellent example of that; which is called Continuum.

It's a 2D space fighter game that's like 15 years old I think. I know it's been around a lot longer than Total Annihilation and that's a 10 year old RTS game. So if attention is focused on all aspects of the game as much as the graphics you produce a very promising game that the majority of people will like. I say majority because there's always some idiot that finds a bunch of things they think is wrong with the game and calls it a failure. Those people have no clue what they're talking about anyway.
