Basically, make sure you understand the following:

Complex Chains
Types of Monster effects
When each of the different effects will activate and resolve

And study the Battle Phase chart here:

That's pretty much all there is...lol.

[edit]Oh yeah, it helps to have a somewhat photographic memory...that way you know all the rulings for every card mentioned during the test....lol....:wink2_jed

in addition to what skey has outlined, giving the test myself I find that the most commonly missed question are in regard to resolving effects in the standby and end phase. There was a recent thread concerning such effects....a good study and I think you'll find well worth wile.

Take your time and read/understand the question completely; just as if you were making a judge call.

When judging you would focus your attention to all the details before making a ruling. Don't neglect this during the test.

Good luck!

don't lose concentration and nerves if a question is poorly
worded. just answer what you think is the closest to truth.
see the date on the test.maybe it's older and some rulings have
changed since.
get a good night sleep the day before!
and yes, know ALL the effects that happen in end phase and how they resolve.

Also before the test sit yourself down for about 5 minutes and take some deep breaths and make sure and relax fully. Make sure and have lenty of paper handy to write down your work to help you follow it better. PUT IN EVERYTHING. Ya dont wanna miss something small now do ya.

Hey Duelmaster !!!

It certainly helps if you study the damage step chart. Actually, it helps a lot. It's been my experience when administering the test, a lot of people miss those questions when it concerns the damage step...so there's a legal heads-up for you right there.

Read the question carefully, and please, please, please read the card text given to you if you are not a 100% familiar with it. Actually, even if you do know the card in question like the back of your hand, I would still recommend you read it anyway.

I was correcting some tests at SJC Columbus, and there were three capable judges who got questions they knew wrong mainly because they neglected to carefully read the card text/question.

Which leads to my other point: please take your time. There is no time limit. Now the test should not take you more than 2 1/2 hours (and that's pushing it), but everyone tests at their own unique pace. There is nothing holy or special if you finish it within 30 minutes. Actually if you do finish it within 30 minutes, I suggest you double check your answers.

Finally, I will tell you while the test is not easy, neither is it exceedingly difficult. Just relax, take your time, and for goodness sake, please read the questions carefully.

This game needs more sincere judges, and I certainly hope you are taking it in order to be more knowledgeable and effective while you are judging.

Oh, and if you do happen to fail...then it's ok. You can take the test again in 3 months. The main reason I say it's ok to fail, is because we all learn from our mistakes. Make sure the person (I would assume he's a UDE official or another LVL 3 Judge) goes over the questions you get wrong. If you pay attention, you will never get those questions/concepts wrong again (hopefully).

I remember the first time I took the Level 3 test (The god-forsaken first version) I had a score of 58%. I was bummed out, but I learned from my mistakes (and I am now very confident of my ability to navigate the damage step) and I took the test 4 months later and I passed !!!

(Barely passed, truth be told, cuz at the time you needed a 90% and I got exactly that haha)

So, I will wish you the best of luck, and please don't get discouraged just in case you don't do as well as you hoped.

Hope that helps !!!
