Pole Loop

Pole Position
The face-up monster(s) with highest ATK on the field is
unaffected by any Spell Cards. When "Pole Position" is removed
from the field, destroy the face-up monster(s) with the highest
ATK on the field.

i have gigantes, zombyra, pole position and gaia power on field.
gigantes has 2400 ATK due to Gaia.
pole position says he isnt affected by spells.
so he has 1900 ATK.
this means zombyra has more attack, so in fact HE is affected by
pole position, NOT gigantes.
so gigantes has 2400 ATK after all!
but, wait, then gigantes is affected by pole position... :)

crazy loop!

Imagine the fun of decks which use field cards when a Cyber Jar's effect resolves.

you mean cyber summons zombyra and lets say enraged battle ox while
pole position and gaia power are already active?

i would like to see a face of a judge who had to rule this one out without
cursing :)

Aww, we went and blinded John with our horrible scenario. :D

Seriously though, I think field spell cards will be the biggest problem regarding interactions with Pole Position on the field until they clarify the rulings.
Wait no, your opponent having no monsters would start the worst scenarios! Even with only one monster on the field and one Field card if my opponent has no monsters yet they can't summon a monster with an attack higher than my monster's original attack but lower than my monsters original attack+the bonus from the field card.
Heck If I summon Magician of Faith and Equip it with an Axe of Despair and a Mage Power, having Pole Position active from one of my Spell/Trap zones then my opponent can't summon anything with 300-2800 ATK since this would initiate an infinite loop!
Does that sound fair to you?

I had no idea who you were on about, but then I was more of a Sci-Fi than historical fiction fan. Actually thought Hogan's Heros was a film! :D

but... given the situation if I have a monster, field spell and pole position active my opponent can still set monsters... what would happen if I attacked the set monster and it survied i mean... it's legal

Historical Fiction?
lol Wow I've never heard it refered too that way before. :D Can you call it that? Seriously? :D

As far as Pole Position goes I think it's time they banned this card for good. Or errata it's abilities to something more sensible. They weren't thinking this time.

For that I would say that you could not attack the monster that would cause the loop. Since the attack would cause the monster to flip up and initiate the loop, and your not allowed to cause the loop to happen, the attack would be an illegal action.

Basically no action could be performed which would cause it to flip face up.
Problem of course is that you can't summon anything with a higher base attack than your first monster either so either keep this for an Exodia Deck or else use low ATK direct attackers.
And eventually they're going to tribute summon something which has a higher original Atk than the boosted monster on your side (unless you keep boosting it) so this "lock" is a short term one at best.

my brain hurts :(

how can an attack be considerd an illegal action if the monster is face down (unknown)? also, what if the monster would otherwise be destroyed but the person being attacked activates Waboku, would Waboku be considered an illegal activation? what about if Final Attack Orders is active? would all attacks simply be considered illegal?
