Pole Position FET-EN050

Pole Position
Continuous Trap

The face-up monster(s) with the highest ATK on the field is unaffected by any Spell Cards. When "Pole Position" is removed from the field, destroy the face-up monster(s) with the highest ATK on the field.

Welcome to the controversies. "Pole Position" (sounds like it should be the name of a racing game instead) starts us off with a rather simple effect. The face-up monster with the Highest ATK is immune to any Spell Cards. Great. We like Spell Immunity. :) Granted when "Pole Position" is removed from the field, the monster(s) with the highest ATK goes with it. Ah, everything has to have a downside.

Here's it's catch. Spell cards often have a wayof raising/lowering the ATK of a monster. So it's very easy to set up relatively simple combinations that can cause a loop to occur such that things never resolve correctly. While the rulings say in that case you cannot do the action to cause the loop, I have no doubt that our faithful readers can come up with many just as easily created situations where even that precident won't prevent said loop from occuring.

"Pole Position" is a good card onto itself, and a major headache for the Judges in your area.

Check the suggestion I had in another thread on this card:

Seriously though, I think field spell cards will be the biggest problem regarding interactions with Pole Position on the field until they clarify the rulings.
Wait no, your opponent having no monsters would start the worst scenarios! Even with only one monster on the field and one Field card if my opponent has no monsters yet they can't summon a monster with an attack higher than my monster's original attack but lower than my monsters original attack+the bonus from the field card.
Heck If I summon Magician of Faith and Equip it with an Axe of Despair and a Mage Power, having Pole Position active from one of my Spell/Trap zones then my opponent can't summon anything with 300-2800 ATK since this would initiate an infinite loop!
Does that sound fair to you?
So if your opponent has no face up monsters you can dominate the field for a bit.
The opponent can still set monsters but will have to wait to summon something with a higher attack than the enhanced ATK or lower than the original ATK of your monster. Obviously you can't attack the face down monsters either if they have an ATK in the region between your monster's original & it's enhanced ATK either so since you are stuck with the same limitation in summoning it's best to only do this with a monster capable of direct attacks.
